Oil accumulator

One of the things I always feel bad about on the four cylinder engine is how long it takes to build oil pressure when the car has rested for a week or so. Even with the stand pipe style oil filters I know it can take a few seconds for it to reach pressure after starting.

I’m considering adding an accusump accumulator to help with that. Has anybody else used or fitted one on here? This is the model I’m considering my thinking was to have it connected via an adaptor on the oil pressure sender port and to have a solenoid valve operated inside the car. Seems a better fitment than under the passenger seat with hoses and valve coming into the cabin.

Any thoughts?

Have fitted 2 or 3 of these on cars at work. Mostly they have been ok and reliable, the last one had an iffy solenoid valve that would either not hold pressure, or not release it occasionally. But that was on an Aston motor which had very high oil pressure, on a Jag motor with 50 psi they worked fine.

I have a friend with a 68 cooper S with a 2 quart model (it was a track car previously). I think a one quart makes sense. If the car is used on a daily basis the oil light goes out pretty quickly, but if left over a week it always makes me clench waiting for it to go out.

@cobraboy would you say plumbing into the oil sender port would be ok? Obviously I’d want it on the high pressure side of the system. But over than a custom sandwich plate on the hose fitting to the block I can’t think of anywhere else that would be as simple.

There is a picture of it on here somewhere that the rovering member posted showing its position. ISTR he used it for a capillary oil pressure gauge. I think its just above the sump/block join and towards the rear of the engine on the RHS.

OK, I'll take a look at the spare engine in the garage tonight. Thanks for that Harvey.
