1974 3500 Auto, Reg. STR168N Almond coachwork

Hello,
Thanks for the post, I paid by money transfer. This would be proof of paying money to a person, but for what?
The purchase was an eBay sale, (may have a record?) so you have to take the sellers honesty as read, and as stated before, distance prevented my actual viewing.
Courier let me down a bit, by not asking for paperwork as requested. Not overly worried by this, but of course it is nice to have, I have never had this sort of problem before.
Members will probably be wondering about my first Aug 1 rant, this was caused by a member who seems to have deleted his comment which I found objectional. (thanks for that) By the way Cobraboy, O P ???
Little record of owned Rovers
Cyclopt, 90 90 100 2000 2000 3500, but sorry folks, I am a lifetime Riley fanatic, with MGs second place
Regards
Brian

If you have a record of the money transfer, and a print off of the ebay purchase, this would be sufficient of proof of ownership.

Remember you only have to prove ownership if someone contests it, which I would think unlikely.

OP is the Original Poster, i.e. the person who started the thread, you in this instance

Doesn't sound like you have a problem :)

Here's hoping you get the matter resolved to your satisfaction. DVLA do seem to take a long time, which can try ones patience sorely. I do apologise if I wound you up back at the start of the month. That wasn't my intention. What Rileys and MGs have you previously enjoyed?

It takes a man to apologise, so regards.
My first Riley, a 11/2 RM, believe it or not as a stupid teenager, I spent Christmas day, at the roadside, (snowing of course), scrapping in white metal con rod bearings, pressured into selling as I had seen a female pulling, pub car park posing, MGA Getting married I sold the car to my brother, now, wife management advised? a Ford Anglia, (big deal)
Anyway, my classics.
Riley Adelphi, ever had a pre-selector gear box apart? another RM, MGB tourer, Another MGBGT, 4 years in my front garden complete rebuild, another MGBGT. Another RM, in dozens of boxes, complete rebuild, another nice Riley RM stupidly sold, I loved that car, went to Germany, (no comment)
First ever car, a Ford 1938 this I turned into an Ashly bodied danger waiting to happen car??
More sob stories for another time
Thanks for your indulgence, people either cry or full asleep once I start.
Regards
Brian

Another poser, I have looked through the forum and not getting an answer to,
A bang on selecting my initial gear selection, reverse, from engine start-up, first, for years Gearbox supposedly reconditioned prior to years of storage, (info in my other posts)
So, any recommendations?
Regards
Brian

Idle speed (or fast idle speed) too high, excess play in the drivetrain, kickdown cable incorrectly set.

UJs (two in the prop and four for the half shafts) and the sliding joint in the prop shaft.
Did you manage to get the paperwork sorted out with the powers that be?

nearly threw a wabler looking at the posts, but, started the old girl up today, and reversed quite happily, so time will tell.
regarding the cars history? still no response from the seller, but the V5 received from the DVLA was at least something, as for the P6, now looking the cats whiskers, and will be in action next year
regards
Brian

From day one I was told by a BW35 engineer to always reverse into your garage when you put your P6 to bed.
The reason being when you first start up the revs are higher on the choke and when selecting reverse you will get that awful clunk.
Something you dont get in forward gears.

Well folks, bit of a surprise today, package in the post, reply from the fellow who sold me the car, so my original rant I can take back, I suppose 12 months wait is OK.
Although the car is now starting and running OK, the electrics are giving me hell, I think my steering column electrics are up the wall, clock etc working OK but the horns, off the same fuse are not working, I need to get the steering wheel boss off to look at the switches. After getting the nut off, I now have had a pulley drawer on the boss for 3 days, tried heating with a paint remover blower, solid, any ideas out there?
keep well
regards
Brian

it is not a normal wheel, it is black, it has a leather rim, it has three screw fittings to fix to an aluminium boss, the boss is held in place with a nut, this I have removed, I assume the boss is on a spline, rather than a taper. or a key, the indicators are working.
thanks for the post
Brian
Ordinary steering wheel or PAS?

They are more difficult because they bend more than the normal ones. You could try pulling at the rim next to the end of the spokes, remove the shakeproof washer, but leave the nut on a good few threads.

I once tried using a puller to remove a thin-rimmed automatic 3500 steering wheel. To no avail. I resorted to walloping the wheel with a rubber mallet. Still no joy. In the end I braced myself, exerted all my strength, and promptly thwacked myself right on the schnozzer when the wheel came off. I had a nose bleed. I hadn't left the nut on a few good threads. I will not repeat this foolish error again! Have fun, mind how you go, sir.
That was a turn up, hearing from the previous owner after all this time.

OK, having dropped another gooley by saying the wheel was held to the boss with three screws, on looking again this morning I find it was four (OK, so the memory is getting a bit iffy nowadays). So, from there, the wheel is off, but the bloody boss is still in situ.
The wheel has two spokes, also covered in leather, but no name of manufacture, not that is relevant (where the hell did that word come from)
An old boy I worked with, had a method, (not good practice) using any legged puller, If the item did not move, hit the top of the puller rather hard as you tried to screw in the thread, worked most times, in my case, no. (Makes a mess of the top of the drawer after a while)
As a matter of interest, the horns, is there a definite positive/negative, I believe some can be wired either way
regards
Brian
