Inhibitor Switch

I am having trouble with the inhibitor switch which I have replaced twice, it seems to work intermittently. Can anyone tell me if this switch can be by-passed in any way. Its a BW65 auto box

The switch can be bypassed, and doing so for the reverse lights is no problem. Bypassing the start side of the switch can also be done, but is a very bad idea, because, YOU WILL Forget, and end up starting the car in gear, with potentially fatal results. If you do decide to do it, just send me the registration number so I can make sure that I never go anywhere near it.

I did think that would be the case that I would be able to start the car in gear by mistake and just wondered if there would be a technical way around it. Thanks for your reply.

Could always re-route the safety switch to a momentary switch on the dash that also needs to be engaged to start? Cool anti-theft device too!

Excellent responce

Thanks for your reply, I will pass this information on to my electrician friend who I may get to do the job. Thanks again.

I know someone with a bypassed inhibitor who bent down and started it without realising it was in drive, unfortunately the throttle was jammed fully open because of a frayed cable - it shot off across the layby driverless, hit a concrete filled steel bollard and came to a halt upside down.
If you really must bypass the inhibitor then you could try wiring it with a relay through the brake light circuit so you need to be pressing on the brake pedal to allow the starter circuit to work.
