    This happened to me some time ago and I found the connection to the drive behind the glovebox had worked loose - tightened it up with fingers and problem solved.

    Thanks - we have used firms for small repairs on our modern car with success and will give it some thought. The idea of getting an aerosol is one worth considering thanks - if I can find one! The area around the chip has dented slightly so will need to consider that too.
