Nut holding the steering wheel on a Rover P6.

Yep, pretty much all non-power steered P6's had this wheel as standard, including 3500S's.

    Best Regarded Specialist?

Thanks for your suggestions guys. I had Annable’s originally in mind too, I’ll have to have a chat with them and see what’s what. :thumb:

    Best Regarded Specialist?

I'm after a bit of advice from those that are in the know please. Who is generally regarded as the best P6 specialist these days for body, mechanicals and general restoration quality? I'm based in the north of England but would be fully prepared to travel to the right place. As nice as my car...

    SD1

Nice! They go for big money these days compared to just a few years ago, like everything else I suppose. I had a SP some 20 years ago. I sold it to a mate who has fully restored it into a real show winner.

Healthy gain there. Sounds nicely 'roadable', specially with the standard camshaft. How is HWC these days btw, still fighting fit? Always was a stunner at the shows!

Nice! Twin Plenum, Clive? I remember chatting to your dad at Brooklands in '97 who said that you had one.

    Rapping engine sound

Another possibility worth checking is that apparently the valve guide tolerance was slightly on the tight side for the P38-era V8's. A build up of carbon would be enough to cause a valve to stick in the guide and cause a miss-fire and/or noise similar to what you describe.

    Windsor Safari Park

:) Great stuff! I don’t know where I got Canvey Island from though....

    Windsor Safari Park

There was a cracking video of a similar car on Google some time back, on a family trip to Canvey Island iirc (with a Barbra Streisand sound track!). Was that your vid by any chance?

    When was this engine used?

It looks to be the early export-spec EFI, as was produced for the USA and Aus in around 1980. Unless the EFI has been retro-fitted, it should have a 8.13:1 compression ratio. Interestingly, the Plenum looks to be the opposite way around from what I've seen on a NAS SD1 too. Must mean that two...

    Napa NADA Makeover Underway

Quite right too! :) Lovely colour, one of my favourites. Looking forward to seeing some pics of it out and about again soon.

    Square Wheel Award

Ah yes, I've remember that episode too. The film I mentioned came out in '71 I think, probably filmed in the autumn/winter beforehand. Next time I see it I'll look for a red P6 parked up, though I'm sure I would have remembered seeing one!

    Square Wheel Award

Shocking list of faults there Mike, especially from Rover at that time! Glad you got thing sorted eventually and kept the car all this time. Such a nice spec too, in Brigade red I'm guessing? To deviate entirely, I noticed from your letter that you were staying at Kenilworth Court at the time...

    V8 Block Coolant Drains?

Great stuff, I'll try and source something to suit. Thanks, Scott.
