alternator pulley

morning all (here in nz) seems like i need a rear roller bearing for my alternator and seems like its not an easy find.
Got one yesterday and wont go over the shaft so will take it back and get on the phone and source one just out of Thames hopefully.
Cant find a part number for a bearing (all can find is its a lucas needle roller bearing) does anyone know if there a bearing part number i can quote?

this bearing seems to be hard to find nobody locally, seems to have!
can i solder the braided copper wire from the carbon brush to the lug, will it stand the test of time?

I would have thought that any auto electrician worth his salt would have the parts at fingertips or access to others that have?
They would also have an alternative alternator that surly would fit, even if the brackets have to be modified.

I have some alternator bearings in the garage. I'll have a look tomorrow and post the brand and part numbers. I purchased them not too long ago from a stockist of general engineering supplies. They are high speed bearings designed for alternators etc. I just took the old ones and he matched them.

In regards to the carbon brush, how long is it? When new they are 12mm or so, and when the reach 8mm, they should be replaced, as the copper wire is then essentially close to maximum travel. Wearing beyond that will see the brush lose contact with the slip ring, and the alternator will then cease to function correctly.

Hi Ron thank you for the offer of the bearing, but disaster happened this afternoon, a few swear words and the tears streaming as i put my alternator on the concrete floor under the car after patial assembly ((cleaned up,new front bearing) without the back housing on and thought i had pushed it far enough to the centre, but oh no i hadnt, and as i wheeled the car out into the sunshine, you guessed it, the rear wheel ran over it (well almost).
Buckled the front housing, bent the diodes, threw it in the bin!!!!!!
I do have a question ,you may know, i think i have an 18acr from an sd1 engine,would i be able to use this?
I may try to find another 11ac if its a mission.

Hi Karl,

Provided the bracket is on the same side of the engine in the SD1, which I am pretty sure it is, then you should be able to use it. Be sure to check that the pulley is of the same diameter. I would be inclined also to keep your damaged 18ACR, as various bits and pieces may well come in handy one day.

Thanks Ron, the 18ACR is all good (that i know of) and complete but the terminations are all different.
I have read i think a post in the forum about converting but really wasnt interested in rewiring the whole thing? But possibly may fit then.
I brought a sd1 v8 engine in pieces thinking one day i might rebuild it (unlikely).

The 11ac is the one i rebuilt with new bearing slip ring etc that i ran over.
I would like to keep it all original if possible.

Hi i run 11AC cars here and found a company who does the torrington rear bearing on ebay.
Will try and find details if your interested.

I've just just change both bearings on my 11AC alternator.
Part numbers are:
Front. 6202ZZ
Rear. MJ-881 (Torrington original) or BAM88 IKO or BCE88 INA

Both readily available in NZ, $10 for the 6202 and $18 for the BAM88
