What does this do please ?

It's the warning light control unit - for the yellow choke light etc.

Looks like the indicator unit, but costs about 4 times as much!

Hi, It's the warning light control unit for the charging circuit which uses the 11AC alternator. The choke light is ignition 12v supplied.

Aaah thanks all.
So if the alt is upgraded to a lightweight unit is a re wire on the cards to delete it or does it stay whichever alt is fitted ?

Hi Mark
Would be easier to rewire as some also had a relay in the system to energise the alternator winding.
Clive

Thanks Clive
I am not good with wiring ( as you can probably tell ) colour blindness means following diagrams impossible. I have to label everything with numbers if disassembling looms.
I will consult with our wiring guru at work if I want to change the alt.
Cheers

i fitted a Lucas A127 from a Range Rover and here is the wiring diagram
mbimage.php

Thank you for the diagram. Are those existing wires plugging into a later alt, or is the wiring different on the diagram from stock ?

I didn't alter the wiring in the car
th
much . You can remove the relais, the 4 TR and the control light device and leave the wiring alone except you have to make a connection between the 2 wires of the control light device (the wires which comes from the alternator has to be directly connected to the wires which go's to the bulb)

Oh Lord that's me stuffed good and proper.
So 11AC, 6RA,3AW and 4TR on a stock car whereby
11AC = Alt
6RA = ?
3AW = unit in driver knee bin
4TR = unit in pass knee bin
TBH I think I will leave it all alone and wait until the Alt fails and then get it rebuilt.
Cheers all.

if you swap to an alternator with electronics the wiring on the car side becomes much simpler. You end up removing stuff from circuit.
