Can any body tell me what will happen if i fit short nose pump instead long one got a new short one but don't want to fit if no good

The pulley on a short nose water pump will not align with the crankshaft and alternator pulley on a 2200.
In theory you could replace those parts from a series 1 2000 engine, but i don't think that it is worth the hassle.

There is no problem in using a short neck water pump instead of a long one.
It's only the fan blade that will be I bit far behind the radiator, the pulleys will align.
I have used a short one on my 2200 TC 1976 for many years and no heating problem.

Could you take the trouble and post a photo or two? Am interested as I might have a leaking water pump in my own 2200TC
and happen to have an early wp in good nick that I could use, at least temporaril.
Is the lower radiator hose from a 2200 or from an early 2000?

Some Rover 2000’s had a spacer on the nose of the water pump to locate the fan closer to the radiator. My Rover 2000 automatic has one. They may also be on some air conditioned models. The fan needed additional spacing from the block to clear the bracket holding the compressor.

You could use a short nose water pump and convert to an electric fan, although unless you use the car a lot in heavy traffic there is probably not much need to do that in reality.
