Guy here has 2 different length levers for sale - says the short one is an early version. My parts book only lists one, and it looks long - P/no 593615. Longer than a 4 cyl one anyway.
??
thanks

There are 3 different types for the 3500S, short (with a plastic acorn), long (with a plastic acorn) and long with a metal acorn.

Is any of those 3 better than the other? Car I am about to buy is a 74 - chassis 482nnnnnD. Change is currently very sloppy, as though the acorn is missing, or the ball socket is damaged.
thanks

You can only fit the all metal lever if you have the plastic bush fitted to the ring in the end of the selector rod. All levers work well once everything is in good working order, especially the lever acorn, and the selector striker lever at the front of the selector rod.

the thing is when you buy a NEW rlever you only get the metal inner, so you need the same length as you have now or the reverse lift collar will be the wrong length,

winns do a polybush replacement acorn which works well.

IIRC the longer gearstick came in with the lower compression engine for the '74 model year, together with the other changes such as the S reverting to non-spoked wheeltrims. No idea whether they can ge retro-fitted, never even thought about it :)

you can interchange the different length gear levers as long as you have the matching length reverse lift collar

Sounds like it has a long lever, as the car is supposed to be a 74, and with engine no 481nnnnnD it should be a 9.25:1 CR unit, whiich I prefer to the 10.5:1 CR. Also useful to know about replacement acorns...
thanks everybody.
