is it possible to tow a borg warner equipped car without damaging the gearbox. is there a max towing speed and distance.?
Best regards Multi

Early boxes with a rear pump it's no problem, but later boxes there are varying ideas put about. We used to work on 30 miles at up to 30mph, and you should add a litre off fluid to raise the level to hopefully protect the tailshaft whitemetal bearings. TBH it's best avoided. The best idea is to remove the propshaft and then you can tow it as far as you like, but don't forget to remove the propbolts from the diff flange completely otherwise if they move backwards they can smash the pinion housing, locking up the rear wheels at the same time.

Hi Multi,

In the owner's manual for the 3500, it states that should the vehicle need to be towed, the rear wheels are to be raised off the ground, front wheels on the ground with the steering locked. Alternatively a tilt tray truck can be used, which is the best option.

Ron.
