Clip on wing mirrors

My car has no wing mirrors and I've seen a clip on mirror on the JR Wadhams site. Has anyone got or is anyone using a clip on wing mirror? Any photos you can share showing how exactly they fit? They any good?

I bought one like that for OCC. Presumably it clips to the quarter light glass, so effectively that can't be used....:hmm:

Hi, They clip to the frame, it goes in between the frame and the seal and the screws tighten against the frame. It's too many years ago that I did it last.

At the risk of appearing rather dim, how does this fit, please?

The rubber seal is in the channel, so it’s securing rib will presumably need cutting?

It goes in from the drop glass frame side. You push it in after winding the window down and tighten the screws up on the frame and the window goes up and down past it. That was how I fitted them back in the day.

Those mirrors come from a time when a lot of cars didn't have opening quarter lights (mine included) which made it difficult to fit to a sealed quarter light, so they went in from the drop glass side.

I had one of those on my MG Midget. Looks like I put it on the quarterlight side, and onto the glass! As I recall it was pretty useless because by the time you had moved your gaze far enough to see in it, and then worked out what you were looking at in such a small mirror, you would be in a hedge!!CIMG0141.JPG

People can be strange about external car mirrors. Down here in Oz, many years ago the powers that be decided (on unknown evidence) that wing mirrors were bad, and all externals should be on the front doors. This caught many Japanese imports out, and we still see fittings on the wings that were intended for mirrors, but have been plugged - easier and cheaper than removing the whole fitting.

Yeah -it was a safety thing when you finally got that cyclist you had in your sites, your wing mirrors didn't gut them at the same time.
