    Battery Drain

Put a battery isolator beside the battery box, as in... Needs an extra strap, covered in shrink wrap to ensure isolation.

    P6B S Project Car

There are 2 holes in the front slam panel on each side - are these functional - designed to allow air through to the engine, or ??? Strikes me they allow air to avoid going through the radiator, doing something useful for temperature. Down here in Oz the more air that goes through the rad the...

    P6B S Project Car

Finally got back to carbs. Runs best with an extra 1/4 turn rich. Drives OK, but Innovate says its still lean. Will try a bit more richness. There was a page here with a process for setting HIF6 mixture, but cant find it now?? Adjusted fast idle up some - a bit too far, need to back it off a...

What is a reasonable life expectancy for a car battery?

Exactly! Bit like a 'lifetime' warranty - guaranteed to work.....until they dont - their life is over. Even with a maintainer (as on the 928) I have rarely seen more than 6-7 years.

What is a reasonable life expectancy for a car battery?

To complete the battery joke, the one in my Clubbie died yesterday. Was fine 2 weeks ago, did a 50km run with several stop/starts. Now, after a few hours charging it will pull the solenoid in, but produce zero rotation. It is 7 years old though, and at best getting used once a month. Off to the...

What is a reasonable life expectancy for a car battery?

You can get daily notifications from them. After the first instance of slow cranking I start watching the voltage more closely. I also have an Ultra gauge on one car with ODB-II socket. On the P6 I have a cigar lighter plug that shows voltage, so I can see the charge rate, but these devices are...

What is a reasonable life expectancy for a car battery?

I have had best life lately from the white case Panasonic batteries. Had a German Varta DIN88 die under 3 months in the 928. There are small (matchbox size) devices that fit on battery poles and can report battery state etc via bluetooth to your phone. I have some that I fit to batteries once...

Seat belt ebay seller vat issue (if outside UK)

A small aside....recently I bought some electrical components directly (ie not Ebay) from a UK supplier (not Rover specific), late afternoon Oz time. When I got the order confirmation email it showed a VAT charge. I replied pointing this out. Within a few hours I got an email apologizing, and a...

twin SU on v8 ..choke position query.

Mine is a 74, with choke cable on nearside carb, which is closest to where the cable comes out to left of the heater. As the choke knob is on RH side of console, it probably isnt too hard to route it out to the right of the heater.

    Curious loss of charge

Have seen this failure mode before - year or two back - 10-15 mins charging ok, then nothing.

Seat belt ebay seller vat issue (if outside UK)

Thanks, both. The email looks correct so I will try contacting them there....but not holding breath. Will probably get brushed off to HMRC.

Seat belt ebay seller vat issue (if outside UK)

Well, you are a better searcher than I, Gunga Din! Care to PM me a link or a way to press my claim back to them please? thanks.

Seat belt ebay seller vat issue (if outside UK)

Understood re opinions . Thats why I only stated facts. The purchases were made on ebay.com.au, so it should not have charged VAT in the first place. Maybe the seller did not set things up properly? And the fact that I have had no response to my feedback inviting them to fix the issue seems to...

Seat belt ebay seller vat issue (if outside UK)

I bought 2 rear Securon inertia belts on ebay from kcponline... They charged me the full UK VAT, on shipments to Australia, and have ignored my feedback and emails....

    P6B S Project Car

Back to the carbs.... Starts OK, runs a bit uneven, sort of like a misfire, but not quite like a bad plug or lead. Managed a couple of runs around the block, but with some burps coccasionally. Plugs were sooty, but not fouled, probably due to idling as I manoeuvre into the garage. Cleaned them...

    rover V8 hydraulic lifters

The moving liners only occur commonly in later 3.7" bore blocks where the std running temp was lifted by the factory, or they have seriously over heated - do some research on block cracks etc. Solution is 'top-hat' liners.

    P6B S Project Car

My injection loom has damaged insulation on all 3 wires into the TPS, so I want to pull the pins, fit some shrink wrap . I have the correct (I believe?) tubular tool to push the barbs in to release the female pins, but cannot get them to move at all. I think I can feel the barbs when I push the...

    rover V8 hydraulic lifters

Lowering the gap between the circlip and the lifter piston will reduce the preload. There shouldnt be any preload issues with a std cam and lifters. I would not have thought you would see oil coming out of the lifters - where are you seeing it? Is your oil pressure OK?

    More SU carb woes

Blocked return line? See if you can blow back through it - if not by mouth, short blips with compressed air. Extinguisher handy. I did the needle&seats and jets recently, and choke Orings, no problems. Didnt touch the floats. Where is the fuel coming out ?

    Next question - distributors

Its not the type of fuelling thats the issue, its usually the CR that dictates the advance curve. Eg an 8.13:1 CR engine will have a much softer advance than a 9.25 or a 10.5 engine . If you look up the advance data in the manuals its obvious. You could use a 9.25 dizzy from a carb car in a 9.35...

    Fuel Injected fun...

The loom I have does not have pins 30 & 38 present. This means I cant connect a Rovergauge to it. Anybody know which lead of these 2 connects to which wire on a Rovergauge cable please? Or is it pins 9 and 18 that are relevant? The page on Rovergauge shows a white socket & plug with wire colours...

    Fuel Injected fun...

I have almost everything needed now for this conversion to 14cux. Some notes I have read indicate a need to tell the ecu some items are not present, by grounding their leads through a resistor - eg AC load, front screen heater. Also to ground pin 34 through 510 Ohms to indicate manual gearbox...

    overriders for beginners

My car came with overriders both ends. The rears were not tight - easy to bump them so they rotated around the bar. On inspection the bolts used did not not have enough thread to fully tighten against the shaped spacer, so I had to get longer ones. At one point I found that the boot lid fouled...
