    My understanding is that early engines ( not sure if it is 2000 only) had a plain main bearing on number 3 but were upgrade to all bearings having an oil groove. If you look on the Wadhams site they advertise the 2 types for the 4 pot engines

    I don't know about the oils, but what he is saying as an oil expert! the modern synthetic oils out performs the classic 20/50 oils in all aspects he talks about the how oil sheer, but he does say that it must meet the Mercedes spec that I mentioned, I guess this is a similar recommendation...

    Thanks for the link, it looks possible to lower the pressure by modifying the relief valve spring, I'm not sure how to go about it though. What upsets me a little is if I had thought about it I when I had the pump rebuilt I could have asked the builder to modify the pressure to around 800-8050...

    Hi Dave, The idea of using the heat shrink was not used in the end, we used liberal amount of rubber grease and the seal went on easy, it was a half hour job (maybe an hour) and yes the leak did stop, from there anyway. Regards John

    My son came up with a good idea of fitting the seal, and that is to use cable heat shrink over the shaft, heat then to shrink the sleeve leaving hopefully a smooth shaft with no step!! Regards John

    my auto box has a leak from an oil seal that is just below the inhibitor switch, I believe that it is the seal from the manual gear selector cross shaft. The question is what is the procedure for replacing it. Best wishes John

The Mk2 jag has the gear selector on the right side of the column but I don't know about the P5 or the MK 1 jag, but further investigation is required.
