    Starter motor problems

If you apply voltage to the Brown/White wire, does the solenoid throw in? If yes then it's dirty contacts inside the solenoid on the heavy side or a fault in the motor. If not, then it's the solenoid or the mechanism is seized. Can you move the starter dog forwards?

    Strange Cooling temperature fluctuations

Do the cheapest and easiest thing first, it's more likely to be the thermostat sticking than the sender.

    Park Light/Dash light issue

Yes it's lack of use, the same happens with the hazard switch and that throws up all sorts of problems. The remedy is, as you've found is lots of operations, you don't need or want to dismantle the switch, just squirt some switch cleaner in it and operate it some more.

    Scarab the Rover..

It's not the top (peak) of the camlobe that causes the tick, it's the wear at the back of the lobe that does that. From the base of the cam profile there's a gentle lift to slowly take up clearances in the valve train, commonly called the tappet ramp, before the lift proper. The worn peaks will...

    Changing Transmission fluid

When I was on the buses, most of the fleet had fluid flywheels. They had three fill/drain plugs around the circumference, positioned at 5 to or 5 after TDC to top up, one of which was a fusible plug. It was a plug with a tapped hole filled with lead solder, if it got too hot it lets go. I can...

    Scarab the Rover..

The arms are not 90 degrees to the shaft bore, the difference is so the pushrods don't foul the hole they pass through in the head.

    Exhaust manifold 3500s on 3500

They will both fit the engine no problem, but the output bore sizes can be different. So check the sizes compared to the exhaust pipe size. In the intervening 50 yrs who knows what has been fitted to your car and what is being offered to you. Has your car got an auto system or an 'S' system? Or...

    Dash warning lights

The lights for charging and oil are both ignition fed, the oil light earths through the oil switch. The charge light earths through the alternator, it being part of the charging circuit.

    Standpipe oil filters

I've come across all sorts of sharp practices by unscrupulous motor traders, which I won't go into here. It's made me realise that cars are generally resilient and long-lived despite people's antics, rather than because of them.

    Standpipe oil filters

Yes, because the filter is orientated 'upside down' the oil drains back, the 'standpipe' up the centre is an alternative way of stopping that. Some filters have a flap disc behind the holes as a non return valve.

    Engine out.

If the brake pedal is moving full stroke but having no effect, then it sounds like the brake master piston seal has rolled over and is no longer effective. The bore ends up with a wear ridge part way along where the stroke normally is, then when is pushed past it during bleeding the seal rolls...

    Tyre Valves

That may well be true, and I'm not arguing the point, however most radial tyres have ribbed inner faces (for greater pleasure:rolleyes:) and they can chafe the tube and puncture it. So check what's being fitted.

There's more to it than that. It's the shape of the vanes on the barrel fan won't work properly when going the 'wrong' way.

Remote Brake booster servo - Ebay

The diameter of the vacuum chamber doesn't look big enough, more akin to a P6. It doesn't have the mounting studs in the right place for the P6b, so maybe that's what the bracket is for. I remain sceptical.

    pollution control piping

Yes, and of course your carbs are sitting directly over the exhaust manifold, that why it has to have all the heat shielding. Go figure. ;)
  24. colnerov

    pollution control piping

It's to bleed the air out of the water in the carb tower, so the cooling system can keep the temperature of the carbs under control and avoid fuel vaporisation.
