Thanks Harvey. So if I'm intending to rebuild the box before using it (If I ever do) then I can use the early one with no issue? Do you know when and why they added the tie bar ?
One other Q if I may. I see the diffs for the Auto and manual cars are different part numbers. Are thy...
Hi all, I recently salvaged an engine and gearbox out of a very early, very rusty TC. having had the engine and box in and out of my SC auto I assumed I know what was doing and as a result I left the tie bar connected and cracked the back of the box off when we lifted the engine out with an...
Theory is that you get to the point where the timing is so far advanced that the engine kind of attempts to run backwards when it first fires. Kicks like a mule and apparently has been known to crack cast starter motor housings. If your car is starting OK and isn't knocking/pinging when you...
consulted my 83 year old retired mechanic neighbour. He picked it. I backed the timing off 2 degrees and it seems to have made a world of difference. Hopefully it won't impact the power to greatly
Still having problems with my starter kicking out on cold start. I'm running an electronic dizzy at about 8 - 10 degrees (as per the instructions of the guy who re mapped the distributor) wondering if this could be the problem. I'm intending to play around with it on the weekend but understand...
Have disassembled the suspension. Taking some measurements and playing around with plastic shims I can move the tower over 10mm by packing the inside mount out 7mm. Caster was good on the last formal alignment check so my next task is to check how far (fore or aft) this adjustment moves the...
Interested to know if you ever got to the bottom of this. Mine went back together the same after replacing the bushes and ball joints. Was fairly close when I did a ‘pre tear down’ check but was drivers side went back together with 1.5 degrees camber. Tower is 10mm closer to the inner guard...
Does anyone have a photo of new sill seals in place.
Seals are supplied longer than the 'raised' section on the sill. I assume they need to be cut down to size.
Are the ends just finished square or do they need to be shaped to blend in with the door seals?
My Series 1 2000 has had the bonnet replaced at some stage in its life. It was painted body colour (Arden Green) on the underside.
Am about to have it resprayed. Should it be entirely saturn black on the underside or is the nose body colour?
The distributor drive gear has a cam lobe on the bottom to operate the fuel pump push rod. Wondering if that's what is fouling inside the housing. You could try rotating the Engine by hand until the gear is 180 degrees around from its current orientation
I recently did a bit of both. My painter mixed up a small sample of Arden Green based on an internet data base and we then compared this with the underside of the boot lid. Was very close and because I am doing a full respray (inside and out) I have the luxury of choosing (I went with the ever...
Question. The lub sticker on the 2000 goes on the LHS. Looks from Hershman’s V8 pic that it sits parallel to the guard edge. How far back from the front edge should I stick it?
Thanks Team, good start... was wondering where that 'do not slam' label went.
Regarding the fuel label for the back window. I know mine is an SC but I think I'll still use it
Hi all,
Whilst I'm not seeking to build a concourse car, I do want to get things as close to original as possible. What I'm hoping is that people will contribute to a thread that can act as an informal reference library for those of us who are at the stage of replacing decals/stickers...
In the process of reassembling my Series 1 SC after paint. For the life of me I can't remember or work out how the spacers and plastic cover goes around the wiper spindles. My car has one large hole on the passengers side and one smaller hole in the driver' side. I have two plastic covers but...
