    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

Thank you for the suggestion, JP. I struggled for many years with Hazel's temperature & it eventually got so bad that I couldn't even drive a few miles without it overheating & getting vapour-lock . I installed an expansion tank & was going to fit an electric fan too. I then read in...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

I've just read this post that I made on this thread back in 2016.......

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

Hazel's heater has been pretty well non-existent to say the least for about 3 years now, which has always been a pain in the colder weather & has put me off driving it. As is so often the case, it has been a repair that I have put off because I thought I was going to have to pull the heater box...

    Rear caliper bleeding

Yes - as Mike says. It’s not difficult, but is far easier if the car’s on a ramp or over a pit so you can get in a comfortable position.

Can you Identify Cars in 1985 from a distance?

Back in the day, our next door neighbour used to say we were endangering our health by reversing into our garage. But she would be standing on her doorstep chain-smoking at the time…..

Can you Identify Cars in 1985 from a distance?

I'm sure it is  This picture raises a question that's interested me for a while () - apart from restricted access & the like, which way do we all prefer to park (ie: drive in forwards, or reverse in)? I'm definitely one of the latter group.

    Door Seal - Furflex

I’m not sure that’s the correct clip, but am away atm so will look when I get back. Original furflex should tap on quite easily.

    Alfa Giulia project

My own car had been bodged to Degree level (& with Honours) I understand that until very recently in South Africa, classics have just not had the status they do in many other countries. They were merely old cars, soldiering on because they weren't entirely decimated by corrosion. Even...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

Whilst I'm on, my friend took a picture of me last night whilst we were re-assembling the brakes. It's not often that I get pictured in the garage, so here I am: As with us all, I'm not as young as I used to be! I've had a P6 without break for the last 36 years, & was in my mid-20s when I...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

All back together now & working just as it should . When I re-connected the handbrake mechanism I noticed it was all very stiff which will have contributed to the poor handbrake feel & the lack of engagement with the pads. I hadn't noticed this before as a friend was helping me & he took...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

DOT 4 & a flush out, yes. I've blown through everything this time, too with a compressor, so hopefully all will be well.....

    P6 by Artificial Intelligence

Not a 'spot' as such, but our daughter has the ChatGPT app & I asked her to get it to 'draw a Rover P6 in front of Sledmere House'. It wrote "Sledmere House" on another house & came up with THIS as a P6  I'm not sure why it didn't just pick up a P6 from Google, but I quite like this...

    Alfa Giulia project

They do have a steering box (& mine's leaking ). The steering geometry needs to be spot on - & then they're a joy to drive, otherwise they 'fight' you all the way. They even have castor adjustment, which if set to negative castor makes the steering really awkward & dangerous, as the...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

Thank you - it is the adjusting wheels that were both stuck with Hazel. I think a lack of use (with the handbrake fully on) hadn't helped. However, the actual actuating pistons were still both gummed up, which was surprising as I'd done this same rebuild only 10 months ago: Quite horrible...

    Alfa Giulia project

Lovely to see :) It may be a "10 foot car", but my Giulia is a "10 yard car" Mid-life crisis! Yours looks in much better condition than mine did (ok, does ;)) but as you say these South African cars are nowhere near "rust-free". All you can say is that if they'd been in the UK with the...

    "Hazel" - a series 1 V8 daily driver

Though the title of this thread is ..."Daily Driver" Hazel spent a few months without moving earlier this year. When I came to use it again, the handbrake was a little numb & didn't act over some of its arc. Fast forward to its MOT last week & another rear brake mismatch/failure . This...

    OCC 469 - restoring & running a "sharkstooth" 2000

It’s the standard lower fixing for the 3-point rear belt, I believe - although I can’t remember if there’s one on the parcel shelf in OCC

    Mid-life crisis!

Probably the main reason for the lack of P6 posts for much of this year so far is the heritage railway project that I have previously mentioned. A year ago, we were about to become aware of the "UK Shared Prosperity Fund" (formerly "Levelling Up") which gave us the rare opportunity of building...

    Mid-life crisis!

A few weeks ago, our son Tom & I went to the Lake District again. Instead of OCC, I took the Alfa & Tom took his latest Fiesta Mk6 ST. A great few days & a couple of pics: :):)

    OCC 469 - restoring & running a "sharkstooth" 2000

I have been absent from this forum again over recent months , although I have looked in on it several times. After retiring 6 months ago, time has flown & I've done very little work on the P6s. I have driven all of them in a loose rotation & kept them on the road, but I am again seriously...

    Engine out.

I suspect the grating noise when you lift the clutch pedal will be a worn release bearing, which you will be replacing anyway whilst you’re on ;)

    Rear Suspension

I put stiffer rear springs on both Hazel & BOP, & as far as I can recall, they were from the same supplier. Bop looks about right to me: Whereas Hazel sits a bit too high (although I like it & it drives well): OCC got new standard 2000 springs & here's a shot soon after they went on...

    Making a splash!

This was a short trip in North Yorkshire with our son, Tom in his latest car - Ford Focus RS. Very, very different cars, but I think the Alfa is the more 'involving' ;) By the way, the odd picture can be deceiving; this was what most of the weather was like!
