Bonus question: During assembly, how would you get this engine to perform at it's best? I'm planning on having the rotating assembly balanced, accurate ring-gaps.....what else?
I think the cam I got for this was very similar to the 3.9. I asked the manufacturer for a good road cam that I could use with the standard springs, as I don't want to start mucking around with the fresh heads I have.
I understand what you're saying about the Holley - but I'm much more comfortable with tuning them than CV style carbs due to my Australian upbringing :). I chose the 390 because when you factor in the way 2 barrel and 4 barrel carb cfm is measured, the primaries on the 390 are smaller than a 350...
Yep the 8.13:1 is in there at the moment because it's a good runner. Once the car has passed engineering and is registered I'm going to put together the 9.75:1. It had crossed my mind to throw a blower on the 8.13:1 instead, or as a side project, but the car wont pass inspection with a blown...
Hey groovers, My project is in limbo while I move house so I'm doing some bench-racing. At the moment it's a stock 8.13:1 3.5. I do however have another 3.5 that I'm hoping to build up. The parts I have accumulated so far are a 9.75:1 short block, a set of reconditioned 4.6L heads, Edelbrock...
Nothing yet lol - that's straight outta the headers. Just straight-piping it might only be as loud as the local Harleys.... I'm going for the sleeper vibe but I forsee cut-outs in my future....
Hi Groovers, Part number is 612898, two welch plugs for the rear of the block. I can't find their specific size to get brass ones. I know it must be on here somewhere but I haven't found it using the search function. Sad story is that when I did my plugs I (apparently and now obviously) used a...
I'm sure they all have a 'resistor wire' as opposed to a single ballast resistor. So yes it will be a ballast system, but it's the whole wire that drops the voltage. ....Pink & White from memory. Mine started smoking like crazy when I first started reviving mine - I believe that as they are...
Hey groovers. Almost time to run the project for the first time since the auto has been attached. Auto in question is a BW66 from a late SD1, so it's basically the same as the 65, not like a Jag 66 sump-wise etc......if that makes sense.
Anyhoos, I've only put 2.5L of Ftype into it and it's...
Ok my only suggestion with that then would be to re-check the gap and the dwell. Sometimes new points will 'wear in' and need to be reset. Still might be a fuel problem, but if it were my car that's where I'd start - weak ignition/timing.
Hi gurus! (hey admin - not sure of this is the right spot for this thread so apologies if it needs moving). I'm up to the throttle side of things in my project. I have a Holley 4 barrel on an Edelbrock performer, and I need to create the throttle linkages. I'm going to go with cable as it's the...
Caveat: I'm no mechanic.
With those two factors combined I'd also be looking at the strength of your ignition system. I think you're getting a weak spark? Is it points or electronic dizzy?
