    Electric Fans

Just thinking about the 2x14" vs 1x16" fan issue!! Theoretically the two 14" fans give a greater area but there is a lot more to it. I suspect the smaller fans are less efficient at pulling air so a direct area comparison may be misleading. Also the water in a radiator tends to flow across from...

Ex-Met Police 3500 P6 sold at Historics Auction, Ascot

If it was a Stag or Ford it would be £40k. Very cheap for an interesting car.

    Stripped thread

I have used these kits from eBay available in many sizes to great effect. easy to use with the correct size drill etc. The drilling is easy as all the drill does is remove the old threads so it self centres. Then just tap the hole with the supplied tap and fit the insert with the tool. Word of...

    Oil pressure

It certainly sounds like the oil pump needs priming but I am surprised it needs it after such a short time. It usually take a lot longer for it to drain out in my experience, but all cars are different! Could be a sheared drive to the pump too I guess on the end of the distributor, but that...

    LEAKY DIFF ???

I did this job by grinding a slot in the old spacer and cracking it with a chisel. The new one will just slip on if you put the assembly in the freezer overnight and heat the sleeve to 50 degrees C in the oven before assembly. No special tools are really necessary!

    Autotest - Rover 2000 TC

He's a nutter isn't he? Look at the revs at around 12 mins, 45 seconds into the video. The needle doesn't leave the red band!! Excellent!!!

That is not an age related number plate though is it? It's just an old number.

    Cam Timing

Does this help? I had the same dilemma recently and the various Rover manuals I have are not very clear. The Rover service manual doesn't really show it, the TVR book (it was a TVR 350i I was fixing) gets it wrong, and the Haynes manual shows both depending on which diagram you look at!!!

Sorry, but I totally don't understand what you mean????

    NADA 3500S Anyone? (Not mine!)

The centre scoop just allows cold air into the airbox. There is a flap on the airbox intake which can move up and down to change the air temperature of the air entering the airbox. Air comes in cold from the outside via the scoop and hot from around the exhaust manifold in variable amounts...

    Classic motorbikes

And a stupid one! Like I said, it is not the motorbike that is dangerous, but the person on it! Having never ridden before, jumping straight on what was considered the high end performance bike of the day would be like jumping into a Ferrari on your 17th birthday!! Riding large capacity...

    Classic motorbikes

I have wridden motorcycles since I was 16 without a break, so 41 years, and I haven't crashed. Motorcycles are not dangerous. People are dangerous. I have had a lot of friends crash motorbikes, luckily with no more than a few broken bones, but they were all doing something risky at the time such...

    Glass fuses to blades

I thought about replacing my fusebox but as I am not a gymnast and cannot fold into three, I decided not to:LOL::LOL::LOL:. I have put remote blade fuses where the headlight fuses used to be though as mine did melt!!

    Glass fuses to blades

I like the look of these. If the understanding of this issue is right and it really is overheating due to metric fuses being too short (Still not convinced about that!) then this will solve the problem. The only real issue I see is that the fuse box lid won't fit!!

    Classic motorbikes

Definitely the RD400 is a generation of from the GT550! Both fun to ride but I did like the Suzuki triple engine. It was very smooth. The RD liked to have the throttle open!

    Classic motorbikes

Not so sure about the older bike handling thing. I recently had a 1973 Suzuki GT550 and it was all original (except tyres) with only 11K miles on but the handling did leave a bit to be desired. It was basically unforgiving. If you went into a corner on the wrong line it was just a case of...

    Engine wont rev above 3000rpm

I recently changed a timing chain and gears on a TVR V8. I found the timing marks to be very odd as the actual alignment mark is not in line with the spokes of the large gear. I was trying to line it up with a molding mark on the wrong side of the gear wheel. I found that Rover P6, Rover SD1 and...

BW35 NADA Conversion to UK spec filler/Dipstick

I have decided to finally fit the UK spec dipstick tube to my NADA gearbox as the current breather is leaking and it is a pain getting under the car whenever I need to check or top up the fluid! I have the adaptor to screw into the gearbox and the later dipstick and tube with the flexible...

    NADA Ranco Valve Leaking

Last comment on this subject from me!! I have just worked out that all the capillary does is adjust the flow of water around the heater matrix based on the temperature of the coolant. (That may have been obvious to some!) I always assumed that somehow it controlled the temperature of the air...

    NADA Ranco Valve Leaking

Update! The capillary tube doesn't contact the pin at all. It seems to be a sealed pipe, I am guessing with fluid in. It sits in front of the heater matrix and can somehow balance the water supply to the heater. If the air through the heater matrix is too hot for the setting in the cabin, it...

    NADA Ranco Valve Leaking

So I have removed the dreaded heater valve and decided to take it apart to see what really goes in in these things. So first job was to peel back the swaged edge. No mean fet as the metal is thick and so hard to bend and you have to lever it against the plastic backplate! Having done that...

    NADA Ranco Valve Leaking

So the inevitable has finally happened. After my trip back from the NEC Classic car show, and the first time I have used the heater in years, a small puddle of coolant has appeared on the garage floor and for those with a NADA car, you will not be surprised to hear it is the Ranco heater valve...
