I'm in awe, after years of seeing many claims and desires of people wanting to do this, somebody is doing it
It's quite a brutal cut isn't it to start with! Will the rear doors still be fully functional with the arches split to allow opening?
I've got a bit of gash 3mm steel hammered round for my trigger mount which is similar length to what you need. It only picks up on one bolt, and works fine hence still being a chunk of gash hammered 3mm steel :D
I think yours is a series 2 so should be part way there. Series 1 P6's I believe have much less in common with their V8 counterparts.
There should be a few mysterious indents in the crossmember that will match up with the V8's oil filter position. The 2000 engine mounts can be drilled and...
I thought it was taller to start with! On my SD1 I've got a spare 2.88 Powerlock and combination of 4HA axle cases which one day would be nice to fit, and with a little ratio tweak to the R380 gearbox my calculations indicate 2000rpm at 70mph in 5th
Question away, I winged it along when...
LT77 and 2.88, that'll be a real long distance cruiser!
Good luck with the Megasquirt, I had mine pre-loaded with a RV8 base map and the stepper motor already configured so it was really down to sorting out my own wiring faults and fine tuning the mismatched injectors that took the time :(
Excellent stuff, you're making nice quick progress :)
What's the open/closed length of the rear coilovers? I take it they are mounted on the standard damper mounting points?
Does it scrape the underside when driving? I'm going to be welding a few sacrificial plates to the bottom of my...
I've got a set of Chevy small truck steel wheels on mine, but they required serious amounts of work to fit.
I think standard American steel wheels from base model Buick's etc of the 60's may just fit with minimal of massaging of the rear D-post, I could be wrong as they generally have a large...
I've been dragged into stuff with mates where they've 'seen something on the internet' and decided to have a go themselves, and made a right dogs dinner of it all. There are a hell of a lot of people I wouldn't trust to pick up the tools, and some of them do it professionally....
Secret because the method would most likely be condemned for being dangerous such is the reputation of front spring removal ;)
You've pretty much described it how I'd remove them, but I don't have a hydraulic ram, just a few wobbly trolley jacks....
Bad news about the engine, but now all good being that you know what's in there!
I'm waiting for my seats to end up like yours, the centres of the bases are pulling apart, luckily the back hasn't started to go yet.
I've got a spare set of fuel lines somewhere, ends are rusty like all but they haven't been full of fuel for 40+years! The fittings I think are BSP, standard copper gas pipe fittings for 8mm should fit the fuel sender unit and reserve tap should you decide to research alternatives?
I'm not a...
Quoting for truth ;)
I've driven a couple of series Land Rover's with the tdi retrofitted, they are simply horrendous, awful conversions. The tdi is rough, in it's natural habitat of a Defender or Discovery they need so much soundproofing and big soft rubber mounts to reduce the noise and...
The SC obviously has the single carb and only comes with a cast log style manifold, the TC only comes with a tubular steel manifold, so for you that would be part of the decision process as to which is easier for you to work with? I don't think there's a huge difference in characteristics...
Years ago I saw a series one with a P6 4 pot fitted, looked bang at home in there, and completely agree with the over-restored identical vehicles out there, a period engine conversion would be a really nice feature :)
I think the 2200 has a reputation for being more unreliable in comparison to...
Slightly off-topic, but does anyone have photos of the adjustable side rods? I never knew they existed, and have been planning on making a set as I can't reach mine to adjust it easily.
I've got a Saab 2.3 turbo engine on my engine stand in the workshop being adapted for rwd in my 2000, to replace the worn Rover twincam turbo already in it ;). There are a few other modern-ish 4 cylinder turbo conversions in progress that I'm aware of.
Just be warned that the back axle really...
Very true, for suspension upgrades usually you'd expect there to be previous experience over the years which has culminated in a relatively agreeable stage 1, 2, 3 etc. On the P6 with it's odd suspension layout that seems to not be the case until more recently where the interest in upgrading...
