I replaced the original spire nuts with new, stainless steel ones. It meant using an Allen key to do them up but they looks very tidy.
These look the same:

If testing it out of the tank shows the needle going through the complete sweep, the wire to the float might have bent so that it's not displaying correctly when in the tank.
As I suggested above, they can be adjusted by bending the wire.
Someone's enormous collection of classics and parts is being auctioned on the 7th of March in Herefordshire (I think). "Our" cars start around page 3. All very rough looking.

Found it!
Initially I thought it looked exceptionally good but then spotted that one of the three tapped lugs where the downpipe goes has been welded. So not 100% but still pretty good. I'll post some photos tomorrow if you like.
No idea what to ask for it. I like to be generous and I don't need...
Excellent result.
And thanks to Falkor for showing so willing.
Quattro, you say you're willing to fund it which is very generous. If you'd like to retain a "donate" link somewhere, I'd like to chip in now and again. I've done this in the past by giving away the occasional part and asking the...
Sorry to hear of your troubles Rich. You've been a real hero keeping the forum going and I'm sure we're all extremely grateful.
I said in the past that I'd be help a little and am still willing but a few changes in my life mean I'm rather more pushed for time now. So I'm able and willing to join...
I run Michelin Energy Save + 185 70 R14 tyres and haven't noticed any downsides at all. If they're heavy at low speeds it certainly isn't obvious. And they allow me to take corners at speeds that most modern car drivers don't dare.

Classic Oils Heritage 20W50
I really don't know why anyone from the UK would want to look anywhere else. In 25 litre containers, it works out at £16 per 5 litres, delivered, and arrives the next day.
I use Fuzz Townsend's Classic Oils 20W-50. Ordered 25l yesterday and it arrived today, better quality and cheaper than anything else I could get locally.

Are they ones off ebay that have the incorrect parallel walls to the holes for the bushes? If so, they're rubbish and I'd ask for your money back if I was you.
About 430 miles in a day: Anglesey to Bath and back. Didn't miss a beat. Been clocking up rather too many miles lately so engine rebuild on the cards. Time to rebore the 2.0 to 2.2 and fit the set of pistons I bought from Iran (!) via ebay.
