    Oil Pressure Drop

Thanks for all the replies. Sorry I haven’t had time to do service and investigate further, hopefuls in the next week or so. I will report back then.

    Oil Pressure Drop

Thanks everyone. I intend to change oil next week with 20/50. I will also do a tune up, timing , carb balance, mixture etc. The oil light has not come on which makes me wonder if the problem is with sender so will clean its contacts initially. I’ll report back when I’ve done the above. Thanks...

    Oil Pressure Drop

Hi Everyone I’ve recently bought a P6B which starts and runs well enough. The oil pressure reads around 35-40psi until the engine warms up when it just drops away to nothing. Engine note doesn’t change and there are no rattles or knocks. Pressure sometimes returns when revved but not always. Oil...

Greetings from returning member in Sussex

Thanks old bloke for the fantastic photos. Whilst I doubt I could justify another P6, I do have 2 MGBs. A rubber bumper GT that I use every day and a mark 1 Roadster that is awaiting paintwork. I agree, they make all great stablemates.

Greetings from returning member in Sussex

Hi I was on this forum a couple of years ago with my Zircon Blue 2000 that I rescued from a farmers field. Much as I loved that car the siren call of MGBs made me sell it earlier this year. I regretted this decision almost immediately but still hankered after a V8. I’ve now managed to track down...

    Clattering sound from engine bay

Thanks Harvey, sorry for delay in replying. I'm in the process of removing the starter motor but the top bolt is fighting me all the way. There just isn't enough space to get a decent socket on it!! More problems are cropping up with each mile, not only do all water jackets leak slightly but...

    Clattering sound from engine bay

Thank you Colin & Harvey I shall certainly check the torque converter bolts which I assume go into the backplate? Harvey, how can I inspect the flexplate for cracks? Sorry to be a pain but as I said, I am a complete novice with auto boxes. Regards Andy

    Clattering sound from engine bay

Thanks Demetrius & Willy I will definitely check the carburettor spacer. I've already ruled out the bonnet prop as a source. I'm still at a loss to understand how either would only manifest themselves with the car stationery in drive and with a hot engine. This noise is a full-on clattering...

    Clattering sound from engine bay

Hi I've just tested again and the sound isn't present with the engine cold even in drive. It only manifests itself after a run with a hot engine. Andy

    Clattering sound from engine bay

Hi Everyone My P6 2000 auto has developed an annoying rattle/clattering sound from the engine bay. At first I thought it might be the exhaust or heat shield making contact as it seems to happen after a run with the engine hot. I've now pinned it down to happening whilst stationery with the...

    Ignition timing marks

Thank you Vern. I still can't see any sign of a pointer, either past or present. I've timed the engine using a vacuum gauge and good, old fashioned trial and error. After further adjustments to carburettor, the car car is running really well so I think I can now close this thread. Andy

    Ignition timing marks

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately my WM DOESNT HAVE A PAGE 47a! Page 45a shows EP line but no pointer. Page 40a is a diagram for Oil pump and timing chain.

    Ignition timing marks

Hello All I wonder if anyone can supply photos of timing mark positions for a 1967 2000 auto. I cannot see a pointer on either the pulley or the flywheel. Surprisingly, neither the WM or Autobook manual go into any detail. Usually I time by trial and error but thought I should try the correct...

    New member, greetings from Sussex

Thanks Peter for your reply, I'm a bit bemused by what you mean about the amount of welding you say is needed. Was I just dreaming that I've spent the past 2 years laying under the car getting burnt and covered by weld splatter! I totally agree that P6 prices are far too cheap at present...

    New member, greetings from Sussex

Thanks for everyone's encouraging comments. I'm starting to get more confidence in taking 'Roy the Rover' (shows my age!) further afield. Apart from a slight water leak from dreaded rear engine cover and a lazy starter motor, it is performing really well. The gear change is smoother than on my 6...

    New member, greetings from Sussex

Thanks Johnny and Mike for your kind words. They say that the camera doesn't lie but I think in this instance it's telling a couple of porkies. The interior has come up well but is far from perfect as witnessed by the slight staining of the headlining, the frayed and missing Furflex and the...

Thanks rockdemon It's probably best seen without glasses or with squinty eyes, as if you were 'Turning Japanese' to quote the song. Hang on, that's something completely different!!! It's far from perfect but that suits me as I won't be frightened to leave it the supermarket car park. The bonnet...

    New member, greetings from Sussex

Hello again Sorry I didn't get to write any more about the restoration of my 1967 2000 Auto but I haven't been entirely idle in the interim. I'm pleased to say that the car is finished and sailed through its first MOT in over 6 years this week. I've put about 100 miles on the clock since and...

    Differential breather and oil seals

Thank you very much Vern. I see that Wadhams do a breather conversion kit so I think this will be the route I shall go down.

Thanks again for replying so quickly. I think I might go for the drip tray option!

    Differential breather and oil seals

Thank you Harvey. This confirms my suspicion about the difficulty in replacing the half shaft seal! Do you think it is worthwhile to add a breather? I have consulted my WM which is dated August 1967 but this makes no mention of the breather modification. I am a little concerned about about where...

    Differential breather and oil seals

Hi everyone I'm restoring a 1967 2000 auto and have removed the rear diff to clean and renovate the brakes. It has oil leaks from front extension and N/S shaft. The extension oil seal appears fairly simple to change but the same doesn't appear true of the half shaft seal! From reading other...
