I think I will look at the choke first as I know there's fuel there and it's getting to the plugs. If that works I will try the spray bottle. Is there a way of testing the choke? Or a better way

    Distributor fitting

I have tdc on the compression stroke. It was all set at 10 degrees before tdc. I will look at the choke in a little more detail. I have it locked on atm as I pulled the cable through into the cab last week lol. There is fuel in the chambers as I've had them off previously and there was fuel...

So the ballast resistor needs connecting then? I wasnt sure whether it was needed with the v8 as that would have been fit to it when it had a 1.8. It was never connected when I brought the car I have cleaned all the earths up but not checked the battery power in the footwell

    Distributor fitting

I have now removed the carbs but still a no go. The float was slightly out on one so I have corrected that. It has a ballast resistor that isn't connected up, is that needed? There is also a wire off the starting motor that's not connected and another by the coil (same wire) I assume this was...

    Su hif carbs

Yes I have been trying fuel from a 5 ltr can to eliminate the tank. I had a previous car and the tank was basically slurry. That had sat around 30 to 40 yrs. I stripped the carbs and pots so they are all clean and running freely. I have had the fuel line off the carbs and there is fuel coming...

    Su hif carbs

I tried petrol directly in and have also tried easy start. It's definitely a good spark and as for timing I have it at no.1 tdc and have adjusted the timing in both directions a tiny bit at a time. They are brand new plugs. I have just removed them and some have black soot and dry, some are...

    1977 mgb gt

I purchased this as a non runner with the intention of getting it started and restoring it. Massive project as I believe it was used for rallying of some kind. Dents all over the place, no seals so water is getting in every where. Roof has been butchered to install a roll cage. Dash is...

    Su hif carbs

I have some Su Hif carbs fit to my 3.5Ltr v8. I have cleaned them up as the pistons were seized. They move freely now. I have now put oil into where it goes but since then the pressure has increased a fair bit to raise the pistons. Obviously this is supposed to happen but it there anyway of...

    Distributor fitting

Ok so I've looked again and I was correct when I installed it. I've had the rocker covers off and tested it all and I'm definitely at tdc, Still no joy though. I've tested and have a really good spark although the car is still turning over slowly. My only other thought could be the carbs. I have...

    Distributor fitting

I have tried this just rocking it back and forthe and the pistons moving up and down but I can't see any movement on any valves until the rotor arm is 1/4 way around the dizzy and then I see 1 valve on number 1 go down. Not sure which one is the exhaust one. I've only ever done this on a little...

    Ballast resistor and General help

I have purchased a 1977 mgb gt 1.8. The engine and gear box etc have been upgraded and has been fit with a rover sd1 3.5ltr v8 engine and gear box. My question is do i still need a ballast resistor? I basically brought this as a non runner and when i brought it the resistor was attached but not...

    Distributor fitting

I definitely have it at TDC and the rotor arm is on number 1. The distributor is definitely fitted correctly but still no joy. I have had someone turn it over and ive tried the timing but no go. It does try but if i don't try it in a couple of days its like its never wanted to try. i Have fitted...

    Distributor fitting

So I've now reverted back to how it should be as shown in the pics. Tdc is at 6 o clock and the rotor arm is in line with the distributor clip atm. As you can see I can't turn the distributor to line number 1 up

    Distributor fitting

I have recently purchased a mgb gt 1977 that has been converted to a rover sd1 v8. I brought it as a non runner and hey presto it's still a non runner. It has been sat for many years so was slight seized but engine is moving. I've stripped the fuel pump and that now works, rebuilt the starter...
