    Electric issue

Just realised that my ignition lock (the bit where the key goes) is upside down. As the switch that was fitted by a PO was for a V8 and the wrong one for the car which is a 2000TC, I can only assume that the switch and lock was taken from a left hand drive car and retrofitted to mine. Maybe it...

    Electric issue

Update on this problem. I had a starting and running issue a while back and thought it was the ignition switch connecting block above the cubby hole in the dashboard, because when I pulled the connecting block down the car would start and run properly. Anyway, having removed the block and put...

    Electric issue

I thought the ammeter would be different for the 3.5 as is the oil PSI, but I suppose there's no reason for it to be different, so yes I could. Will have a look when it gets warmer tomorrow, it's bloody freezing down here in South Wales. Regards Terry H

    Electric issue

I have just bought a oil/amp gauge which was supposed to be NOS with no packaging. It turned out to be for a 3.5 V8 car, so no good for me. Anyone interested in buying it. Regards Terry H

    Electric issue

"Does the discharge only show only above 2000rpm?" Always shows a discharge, never shows a charge even with everything turned off. If I turn things on like lights it shows a bigger discharge. "Have you tried pulling any fuses to see if this traces the discharge to a certain circuit?" No not...

    Electric issue

I have an electrical issue I'm not sure about. I think the gauge is faulty but would like other opinions please. At 2000 revs the gauge shows a continuous discharge. Am I right in thinking it's the gauge at fault. Battery shows 13.46 volts at 2000 revs. Thanks for any help/advice. The gauge...

    Newport, Waterloo Road

Saw a very nice looking series 2 yesterday passing my house on Waterloo Road it then turned right onto Cardiff Road. It was a light green colour I think, I only just caught a quick glimpse of the rear as it pulled onto the junction, it was in very good condition, I couldn't hear a burble of the...

    2000 Head replacement

Just came back from a short run on the M4 both ways from Newport to Magor as we still have Covid restrictions. Total 20 miles at 65-70 MPH all the way, started with half a tank of petrol with a shot of Red X in the fuel to clean everything out. I found that when cold I couldn't pull of without...

    2000 Head replacement

Yep did that with the rotor and there is resistance. I do have a good timing light though it is getting a little grubby now could do with a good clean. Haven't managed to get a run in yet but will do before the weekend and then retest the compression. Regards Terry H

    2000 Head replacement

I did check to see if the vacuum advance was working with a vacuum pump on the carb end of the pipe with the connection on the carb blocked off so I could operate the advance by using the pump manually and it was working correctly. Regards Terry H

Timing is set correctly at 6 degrees BTDC points set at 0.016in and plugs set 0.025. New jets fitted in the HS8 carbs and airflow is set equal on both carbs, choke and throttle set as per White Rover repair and operation manual idle at 750rpm. Only thing not checked is valve clearances. Regards...

    2000 Head replacement

I suppose part of the problem is that with these Covid restrictions on travel a long run is not possible. I have been trying to use this P6 instead of the other cars I have (maybe I have to many). Will try and get a run around the town and take another compression test after 60-80 miles. I would...

    2000 Head replacement

I only bought the car in February and very little history apart from the previous owners ramblings in a ledger. None of it makes a lot of sense. A few invoices but they are dated 1989 and earlier. I always keep all my receipts in a folder and pass them on to the next owner when I sell a car as...

    2000 Head replacement

"both SC and TC, made after the launch of the TC have valve seats hard enough for unleaded, and all TC exhaust valves are unleaded-compatible." If that's what they did back then, that's good enough for me. But doesn't alter the fact that I have a problem with a loss of 20psi compression on two...

    2000 Head replacement

"They already have hard seats, you don't have to do anything for unleaded gas." I'm a little confused now. Why do we have to put a lead additive in then, and why do we get valve seat recession if additive is not used. Regards Terry H

    2000 Head replacement

Sorry I meant have the head converted to run on unleaded fuel, not manifold. Not that any of that matters at the moment as there doesn't seem to be a head available for a 2000TC engine. There are a few 2000SC heads and at least one 2200SC head for sale. Regards Terry H

    2000 Head replacement

Hi All, I've found a NOS Rover 2000 head for sale and I was thinking of buying it but noticed that it has a SC inlet manifold for a Rover 2000sc where mine is a 2000tc. My question is, is it a matter of just replacing the SC inlet manifold with my TC inlet manifold. I would also be getting...
