fabulous story of a father's purchase of a SD1 which the son refers to as the “worst car in Britain” in fact he says a quick Google search in 2019 shows that he had purchased a vehicle branded the “worst car in Britain”

sadly he doesn't have a picture of the actual SD1 so has done a google images of a random one in the article (which is quite a good read)

my favourite paragrapho_O

The car was brought round and almost immediately everything went wrong with it. Fortunately, my dad had heard about a man who lived up the road who fixed vehicles cheaply. This guy’s garden was reassuringly full of abandoned scrap and the car would be quite safe on his property on account of the vicious dogs that came hurtling out every time you paid a visit. it became a money pit. The man up the road replaced the engine and when that didn’t work the gear box, then the clutch housing, the wiring and finally – the engine again. The car was eventually brought back on a tow truck for the last time and sat in the garage for a decade before being taken away for scrap.
omg what a nightmare, can anyone beat that for a sour tale?

You could even trap your fingers in the door handle and get a nasty cut,

Most people with an SD1
Just watched it disintegrate.

You could wash one and see the rust coming through the paint work

When I saw the thread title I initially thought it might be a reference to the old AA Square Wheel award to the Rover P6 3500, circa 1974 IIRC. Unfortnately, I no longer have the relevant magazine but it was yet another example of BL's poor record at that time.

Hi, They can't be all that bad, they have provided engine improvements and five speed 'boxes for decades.;)

These two statements are connected I reckon. Cheap mechanic = keep on replacing things (engine twice). SD1s had issues for sure, but a cheap mechanic working out of his back garden is rarely the answer.

That was just more Brexit propaganda from the remoaners clothed in the story of a crap car and a stupid owner.
