I thought i'd share a few photos of my latest toy, I spotted this 1971 2000 SC for sale at a local car show and after a good look around and a bit of negotiation i decided to buy it, It was purchased new from Botswoods here in Ipswich and then spent all it's life until 18 months ago living in the near by village of East Bergholt, the First family used it up to 100000 miles and then between 1988 and 1998 it came of the road and was sold to another villager who restored it and used it until his death, since it came back on the road in 1998 it's done 18000 miles and still seems pretty good.

It droves surprisingly nicely, when it came back on the road again the owner fitted a 2200 SC engine as he thought the original 2000 was a bit gutless, it did come with the original engine though as well as a spare 2.2 lump and a gearbox.

It does need a good clean still!, I've got a new oil filter and some oil to fit now, the exhaust manifold was blowing so me and mate removed that yesterday and replaced the gaskets, it's much better but still blows slightly as i think the manifold will need refacing.

Apparently the steering wheel is collectible?. I've fitted a new radio as the old one was a 1980's digital tape player and looks rubbish, although this one is modern it does look a bit nicer with the chrome, plus it only cost me £4 for a boot sale last week!, I did have a few problems fitted it though as the last owner powered it from the interior light which wasn't giving out enough voltage, I've now wired it to the cigarette lighter so it's much better and doesn't keep turning it self on and off.

The leather is a bit aged, I've bought some autogylm leather restorer stuff, it's probably rubbish but it's worth a try.

I've also made a start fitted rear belts, I have a 8 month old daughter so it was important she was safe, well done on Rover for thinking about fitting mounting points 54 years ago!

I just love the number plate, yes that is it's original plate, the dealer on the bottom was the garage who restored it back in 1982 for £784!

The history with the car is quite remarkable.

So there you have it, there's still lots of jobs to do, like find a touch up for the paint work, anybody know the colour code for Brigade red and work out why my headlight has now stopped working on one side and it needs a good polish!

Thanks for reading.

lovely looking car, impressive that being a 4 cylinder stripped to a shell was put back together with such attention to detail. Is there a story why it was stripped so far?

If there this then i don't know it!, Looking at his house on street view there was a few P6s in the field opposite his house which looked like breakers, I'm guessing he was just an enthusiast who enjoyed restoring them.

Hi Trigger,

I see you made it over here from the beige forum. Great buy - you will find all the knowledge and help that you need over here. Welcome.

Beautiful car. Interesting to see the mix of new and old style switches for lights and wipers.

Stunning car, you must be very proud of it

Leather will come up beautifully once cleaned and fed, the rest of the interior is spectacular
