2000SC to 2000TC carbs

Hi There,

I have recently purchased a 1971 2000TC which at some point in the distant has been changed to an SC. The original head carbs and manifold came with the car. I took the head to be checked an it just needed new valve guides (probably why it was changed) and a skim. All good there. I have every intention of putting it back the way it should be.

I have been cleaning up the carb assembly and think I am missing some bits of the throttle linkage. Would anyone be kind enough to take some close up pics of the linkage from the carbs to the throttle cable at the steering idler. I have attached a pic of the bottom of my carbs, and am assuming there is a control rod with a ball end that connects to the nylon bush in the middle with a split pin? The second pic shows the current SC linkage.

I am trying to find which parts I am missing, or whether some of the SC parts can be repurposed. I don't have a 2000 parts catalogue unfortunately.

Failing this I will have to try and flag down a TC in the street and ask for a nosey.

Much appreciated.

It looks as if your parts are still there. The missing shaft that should connect to the nylon coupling under the carb, has its end modified, and is used in your current SC set up. I think it would be easier to modify this shaft back to its original form, rather than try to search another one.

Something else you should consider is the choke cable(s), because TCs used a splitter that connected the single cable that comes from the knob inside the car, with 2 separate cables, one for each carb.

Mine had hd8 carbs, but the linkage looks the same. Suggest you do needles and seats in the bowls, and check the jet tubes while they are off the engine. I seem to recall there are Orings or some sort of rubber on the mounting plates ?

Indeed there are. and a drop of silicone grease or zx1 helps the union. Consult the Workshop Manual if you can, I found the TC setup a bit tricky, they "float" and mustn't be packed. And when looked from the front, they must run parallel with the manifold inlet face. The nut and bolt spring tensioner adjusts the angle. Make sure to drain coolant before you start, unlike me, I got away with it luckily.

I hope it's OK to quote the Manual : The carburetters fitted to the Rover 2000 TC models are flexibly mounted and supported by spring tension.
Do not pack between adaptors and inlet manifold in an attempt to reduce or eliminate carburetter movement.

Thanks guys. I have a full top end gasket set on order that has the carb o rings and gaskets. Had the carbs apart and the jets and floats look fine.
