2000tc 2200sc girling calipers

Am I right in thinking that the front calipers on a 1967 2000tc are different to 2200sc.
Only asking as have a pair of 2200sc already off the car to rebuild for my new 2000tc project.
Also are the rears all the same or should I just rebuild all the calipers on the tc.

I'm pretty sure they're the same. All the rear calipers (barring the Dunlop braked cars) are the same and I think the 4 cyls all used the same front calipers. If not quite identical, they are certainly interchangeable.

Some 2200's did come off the line with V8 front calipers.

They are slightly different. Pre-73 cars (roughly) had Girling 16P type calipers, which changed to 16PB later on. The only difference is the pad retaining pins (thinner and three of them) and the pads (larger friction area). You can put early pads in later calipers but they'll rattle, and later pads will need the corner holes drilling out a fraction to fit the earlier calipers. Everything else - seals etc - is the same.

Note the larger friction area and three holes of the later pads.

Thanks for the info guys.
I believe the front calipers I already have off are the later type but will double check today now ive seen a picture for reference,
Now just to decide whether to rebuild them or see what the ones on the car are like.
Good to know all the pistons and seals are the same though :)

Do the later calipers not have metric threads and early ones unf threads.

There is also a difference withe the dust cover depending on the piston. Thin groove and wide groove.

Well my 2200 sc ones are the later type, not sure about the threads on pipes though and to keep everything as near to original think I will rebuild the early ones if there ok when I get them off

This might be interesting for you.

The markings on my spare ones are near the mounting holes. They should be "16p", "16pb" or "M16p".

I am not sure when they changed on Rovers but there is a lot of posts on the internet from Triumph owners about metric versions from around 1973. My spares are 16PB but the ones on my car should be M16p. I will take a photo when I am next working on the car.

Hi

To bring this thread alive again the link that Colin put for the triumph site is spot on to help with what you should have on the front end. I have just bought a new set of calipers from Brakes international, I selected the later model that they advertise for as i have a 2000TC 1973 and made the assumption mine would be the 16PB stamped caliper, what actually arrived was a set of 16p calipers. Not paying that much attention about it as i was giddy to the fact i had shiny new calipers to go on and had only just replaced the pads on my old ones which have done zero miles. When i looked closer I then discovered what everyone talks about with the pin holes for the pads are a lot bigger on the 16p. Undeterred i then tried to fit them to the strut and noticed that the new calipers also have a smaller hole to fit the bolt through to fix to the strut, At this point i decided to call the place i bought them from and the guy was adamant the ones sent were for my car.

Now to ensure i have not gone mad would you agree that the calipers that were on my car were correct stamped 16pb or that i should have the 16p on it as the guy from the factors said meaning someone upgraded my calipers in the past? I know what i would like to assume is that i should have 16pb's and get the motor factor told to change them LOL ( Anything for a small victory in life)

Cheers Chris
