3500 wheels/tyres onto 2000

Hi

I have a set of wheels that came off a series 1 3500 and they are basically new still having the colour stripes around them and the remnants of the stickers. They are Michelin MX 185 R 14 90T Radial X. I have looked them closely and they do not state 8 plies so I am assuming that they are not van tyres.

I have a 66 2000SC running on 165's. Is it an acceptable swap to put the bigger tyre onto my car? I am wondering what effect this may have on the speedo and gearing of the car and whether this would be detrimental to MPG etc
I have some experience of fitting alternative wheels and tyres to cars as I have fitted 17" Audi sport rims to my camper van and sorted tyres for load rating and rolling radius to have minimal effect on speedo etc ( VOSA checked no less, don't ask  ). However my rover is new to me so I am still learning :D

The original 165s have a radius of 621mm when new and the 185s are 650mm (assuming they have a ratio of 80)

The gearing will be raised by around 4.5% meaning that if your speedo was correct to start with (Unlikely) then it would read around 67 when you are doing 70. In reality your speedo will probably read 75 when doing 70 to start with, so will just be more accurate with the larger tyres.

The rear suspension arm (from the top of the DeDion to the boot wall) is bent on the 3500s to accommodate the wider tyres. You may have to change these, but try it and see first.

As said above :)
My TC has V8 wheels, tyres and rear arms.
No problems other than the speedo under reads a fraction on mine but only a few MPH not worth worrying about

Hi
Thanks for the replies. I have a couple of sets of 3500 arms also. Is it a big job to change? i'm handy with the spanners just not to familiar with my P6 yet.

cheers jamie
