Hi, All

I live in the Bay of Islands in the Far North of NZ.

My 1974 3500S lived all its life at the other end of the country, inland salt-free and garaged, all its life with 2 owners, until I bought it last year and drove it 2,000 kilometres home.

It is totally unrestored and original, apart from the exhaust system aft of the manifolds.

So there are a couple of scratches that I have painted with clear nail varnish, the fabric seats and headlining are perfect, some of the minor dash controls are Araldited together, but that’s it.

Hi Jay, I live in Wanaka, interesting that my P6 was restored in invercargill, but was inherited by restorers Daughter and taken to N.I. I am travelling up to Wgtn this weekend to take delivery, so looking forward to a long comfortable drive home, Cheers Bert.

Hiya, Bert.

Mine was a Tapanui area car all its life before me; sold new by Beck Motors in Gore (still has the key tag). Yours could well have been sold new by the same firm’s Invercargill branch the year before.

I stored mine with a friend at Cardrona until we could get down to collect it.

My wife Jacqui (Madelin) does a big part of the microphone commentary at Wheels at Wanaka. We took one of her Austin 7s to last year’s event. It was at that one that I spotted my Rover for sale.

We have a number of vehicle nut friends living in Wanaka; I imagine more than one of them will be friends of yours, too.

I don’t believe any “S’s” were NZ assembled; nice cars and not many left in New Zealand now… two thumbs up!

Yes, you're correct, certainly as far as my car is concerned.

The chassis number says mine's an export RHD car, not export RHD CKD kit (number starts 482, not 483).

So that's today's new learning. Thank you.

Welcome Pjay,
I know Russell well.
My stomping ground as a kid. Bach opposite the bullet holed church.
Introduced surfing to Long bay. yes Im that old.
Your next job will be to track down a retired oldskool mechanic living in the town."The Duke" is a good start
Enjoy

I’ve lived in Russell a long time myself (obviously not back to your time, since I knew I was no pioneer when I started surfing at Long Beach).

One old-school local mechanic wants nothing to do with other people’s cars in his retirement; the other’s a mate of mine and was my next-door neighbour for 15 years.

It’s great to have The Duke as my local!
