A few months back a neighbour completed on his house sale and his son was clearing out the garage. 10pm. He was trying to haul out his dad's 1972 Almond P6 that had been in there untouched for 10 years. I remembered seeing it but had assumed it had been sold. Anyway, it was to go on sale and sit in another lockup until then. However brakes were seized, non runner at that particular moment I offered my driveway for short term storage. The neighbour weighed up the financial considerations and said " You can have it if you want? ". I said yes. The problem was now mine.
There car was bought new in Teddington, around the corner, by a chap that used it to get to Strawberry Hill golf club, around another corner. Hence the mileage.
New battery and all the electrics worked. It had a new exhaust 10 years ago, new tyres and needless to say it's original Radiomobile.
Recon calipers at the front, new oil, filters, plugs and belts and pipes. Runs like a dream, like a sewing machine. And get this, when it arrived on my drive it had 2/3 of a tankful of ten year old petrol in it. That's what it started on and that's what it's still running on now.
FYI, when I was at college in Liverpool ( I live in London ), I had a ropey 2200TC that I'd rebuilt during the summer hols, this was 27 years ago. I had that for 15 years then it was replaced with a sweet 3500 auto. In between I've had a P5B Coupe and a P5B Saloon, the latter which was bought for £50, £25 more than the asking price ( I felt guilty as all it had was a leaky heater hose that the owner thought was terminal).
So the story continues. It's about to pass it's MOT and embark upon a slowish smooth slug over to Cornwall, 250 miles away. For the weekend.
Let's see how we get on.
