hi all took a punt on a 4 speed manual box on eBay ....it was a good idea at the time and I'd really like to make my p6 manual.. however now it's sunk in I'm going to need a load of other bits .. the gear selector for example flywheel clutch Pedel slave etc.. has anyone else done this conversion and could let me know what I've let myself in for ... thanks

This is the box Rover P6 3500S 4 speed gearbox with bellhousing | eBay

I think if you want to do an auto to manual conversion you'd be better off starting with an LT77 as the box you use. That way you get a better box to start with, with the bonus of an overdrive fifth gear, for the same amount of work.

I did think this however those lt77 boxes seem to be very expensive and I've already got the old 4 speed

There are many guys on the forum, who made this conversion and I´m sure, they will help you.
It´s also a long-term project for me. I´ve bought a LT77 from a TR7 (this scene is not quite up-to-date of the request for LT77s ;)), and had to look then for gear-selector, pedalbox, bellhousing etc. Except the parts you can get without problem (clutch parts i.e.) I have everything now. Before I did this, I thought about original 4-speed or LT77 , but soon was aware, that the 4-speed is not the way to go. This, like Harvey mentioned, with the background, that you must look for all parts necessary. I´m not sure, but heard that propshaft of Auto to 4s does not fit. From Auto to LT77 it fits.
And, with both boxes, you cannot simply install them, you should open them or give it away, if you are not sure what to do. In the UK you should still get LT77 boxes for acceptable prices. First priority is patience

The stripping and checking the box out is not a problem I'm in no rush to get it done ..... just wondering what's required ... do you know of a prop that will fit or can you get the 3500s prop any where

The box I was sold for my conversion was apparently out of a 6 pot SD1 and it fitted with the standard V8 auto propshaft. The benefits of hindsight being as they are, I should have opened it up and done the bearings before fitting it, but as I was a cheapskate, it didn't happen and the addition of a better camshaft soon put paid to the poor LT77.

At least, the box went on to donate it's selectors and some other bits to a Land Rover that was in distress, so it wasn't a total loss.
