Hi everyone. Just bought my first P6 Rover, It's a 1965 2000 SC.
The question is does anyone know or can recommend someone who can make replacement seat covers? because the originals are pretty much past it. Thanks in advance.

I believe the early type of seat isn't too difficult for any competent automotive trimmer whereas later boxpleat is - you should see previous samples of work. Your best bet is have a look through the forums as there are a fair few retrims. 4 seats in leather is going to be £2.5k+ though...

Hi. Thanks for the info. £2.5k doesn't surprise me, so it seems like I'll have to start saving.
Thanks again.

Dave

It depends how much you're willing to spend & what quality / originality you're after.

Good used sets do occasionally crop up on the likes of ebay (& no doubt Facebook - which I'm not on). 'Flat pleat' leather is what your car should have had from new & is perhaps less rare to get hold of than some of the others. Later 'Series 1' seats (up to 1971) have a modified outer side to give room for inertia seat belt spools on the B/C posts, but will still fit & look fine. After 1971 the 'box pleat' referred to above was the norm, with thinner shaped backrests too.

Both types of seat are also available in cloth; the 'flat' ones in very rare 'herringbone' material & the 'box' type in a more standard nylon cloth.

Lighter coloured leather seats can be recoloured reasonably effectively if needed.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. Like you said it's a smooth leather but looking at it again, the seats aren't that bad. I'm wondering if some type of leather restorer would work.

Hi, Those looks pretty good already, stitching looks Ok, no wrinkled piping and just a little grubby. Try cleaning it with warm soapy water and a nail brush, don't swamp it with too much water. Then feed the leather. After that you can colour it if you want to.

Those seats look super

A bit of cleaning, feed & maybe a gentle recolouring will transform them. They are 'Sandalwood flat pleat leather' by the way. My Series 1 V8 has the same seats in the same condition & they are certainly the most comfortable P6 seats I've ever known!

I agree with Phil and Peter. My seats are very similar: oldest Mk 2 V8 on the road so very much like a Mk 1. I cleaned the leather with saddle soap then fed with harness dressing (Sedgewicks). There are plenty of novelty leather products out there but I prefer the old fashioned stuff from the saddlers. I’ve got it in the tack room anyway!

I’d avoid ordinary soap. Glycerin-based saddle soap with damp but not wet cloth. Rather you than me with the nail-brush.
