A non-Rover joins the fleet

Well, it seems that my urge to buy older cars could not be stopped, once again, and, as a result, I'm now the very proud owner of a 1979 Reliant Scimitar SE6A. It's in very agreeable condition, though it requires a little bit of work, but it'll be a fun car to work my way through, and enjoy! It has done a very low mileage, has had stainless exhausts, and fuel tank fitted, new tyres, and a new radiator, in the recent past. The car will be arriving next week, but, in the meantime, here are some photos of the car, that I received from the seller. The only downside is that my 827 will need to be sold in the next couple of months. The Scimitar should be a fun car to run regularly, alongside the P6, and the 75.
However, I've always fancied a Scimitar, and I reckon this one is just what I wanted. This is the first non-Rover for a wee while, but, I'm looking forward to driving it.

I am envious as I have always wanted a Scimitar, but SWMBO hates them with a passion. She cannot explain why, she just does. As an old Dales farmer once said to me "Funny cattle women"

they are nice cars and easy to work on, loads of parts are available as well, heres my old one which I sold a couple of years ago but is on ebay now.

Thanks John! I've wanted one for years, but never quite got round to it. Thankfully, I've received no objection, as yet, to my Scimitar ! 8)

The ease of repair, and affordability were big considerations. The club support, and parts seem fantastic. The fact that everyone who's owned one says they'd recommend one also helped.
Your former SE6A looks brilliant. I had a long look at the ad on ebay when I was looking for one, and it was very tempting, though far more than I could justify spending! :D

Hi, tidy looking car, I originally thought because of its age it should have had a Cologne
engine. When I looked them up 1979 was the change over year. Personally I think the
Essex is the better engine.

Dammit Fraser, I truly envy you your youthful optimism and enthusiasm!
I once possessed the same attitude . . . . .
about the same time as The Beatles released 'Please Please Me'. :? :?

Well done you'll have fun with that . I had an SE5A about 25 years ago . Just be aware that the rear end can become the front end in the blink of an eye   :D

A lot of the Ford fans say the same. I've not had any previous experience with either, though I read a lot of good things about the Essex.

I try my best! :D Certainly keeps me on my toes, and I'm always keen to take on a new challenge!

Thanks Stina! :D I'm certainly looking forward to using it! Yes, I think I'll take it easy. My MX-5 was on poor tyres when I got it, and for the first week or two was rather too tail-happy. The Scimitar is on good tyres, but I'll see how it behaves once it's on the road.

I've now arranged for it to be delivered on Wednesday, and I can't wait!

Looking forward to seeing this. Hope you're going to do more than just wash this one!
Are you bringing it to Bowes?

The man's unstopable! You can't go wrong with slot mags though.
Thanks Paul! Yeah, they really do add to the 70s look, and make it look quite mean. I prefer SE5s on Dunlop alloys, but the SE6 needs the Slot Mags.

It should be a lot of fun! I'll use this one lots, as it's very much my sort of thing. It will be cleaned, however!
I don't know if I'll be at Bowes, as the exam timetable has just been released, and I have one the day after Bowes. :(

The Scimitar arrived this afternoon, and, I'm delighted with it! There are certainly jobs to do, but it's a fundamentally very good car, which has had a lot of money spent, on items like a Stainless fuel tank and exhaust system, tubular manifolds, recent ignition system replacement, good quality tyres, and lot of other jobs. My main jobs are to sort out a few bad earths, get it running slightly more richly, and attend to the leaky shock absorber.
It drives beautifully on the private road where I store it, and I can't wait to get it on the road properly, in due course!

that looks like a tidy example, is there any crazing on the paint, I removed the middle box from mine and it sounded great.

There's a little crazing on one front wing, but other than that, it seems very good indeed, and appears to be original paint, as well. Mine certainly doesn't sound like the one that I see locally, as mine sounds a little sportier, so perhaps someone's had a bit of a play with it. Very agreeable indeed, however!
