A4 P6

Ok, going back to the convertible theme, many of you will know I build a semi-convertible many years ago, but it died, and was replaced by a new project, which may or may not end up as a coupe, we'll see.....

Anyway, I've never forgotten the convertible, and one of the main issues with building a convertible is getting a good soft top for it, my old "tent" was pretty embarassing to say the least, so I'm always on the lookout for a mainstream roof that could be used on the P6. I've noticed the A4 convertible has a very nice roof, and the other day I got the opportunity to measure one up and generally poke around. The dimensions are near perfect for the P6, certianly within bodging distance, so I've mocked up a photo of a P6 with one installed. I've taken the liberty of making it 2 door as well....

So your coming out of hospital present is.... A crash write off A4 convertible :D

I think that looks completely 100% suitable!

That has very nice line, does/will the roof fold into the rear deck, or sit high when down.

go on ... I dare you :D

I double dare you!..I really like the look of that. That profile reminds me of a Consul Capri or Volvo P1800, with the way that the roof slopes down 8)

It looks very good. The rooflne looks perfect. Also reckon that a hardtop with same shape on a 2-door P6 would look awsome.

Really lovely lines with that roof. It goes back to the old aircraft engineer's mantra, "If it looks right, it probably is" And that certainly is right.
How cool would it be to have a automated lifting rear decker panel to stow the electrically operated roof under??? Maybe even BMW CSL style electric rear windows?

I had a good look at the A4 and it comes with the lifting decker panel etc, and could be made to fit, by moving the fuel tank to the bottom of the boot, or under the rear seats, and shortening the bootlid.

The electric windows are quite interesting as they would need to perform some convoluted movement to clear the b/c post and then drop into the space. Luckily again the A4 has such a mechanism, I found the actual mechanism on ebay, quite interesting really.

You can see the tracks that guide the glass, either you could just use these plates, or it wouldn't be impossible to cut new plates to produce the movement you need.

I'm off into hospital next week for a month or so, so I expect somebody to have completed it by the time I get back

I've even found you a donor http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200655518812 Bit pricey though.
