Adjust idle?

Hi all

Recently my P6 3500 has started to run slowly at idle to the tent that it pauses before pulling away. Will adjusting idle speed fix this? Is there a write up of how to do this? Is it just a case of adjusting a screw on the carbs? The handbook goes on to talk about checking downshift cable after this is complete.

Any help gratefully received.

Hi Richard,

To adjust the idle speed via the carburettor screws, you'll need an air flow meter also, else it is very likely that they will go out of balance. Other possibilities include insufficient or incorrect oil within the carburettor dashpots or carburettors that are in need of an overhaul.

idle is related to ignition timing...and the timing is also (slightly) related to the dwell-angle (points)

the pause b4 pulling away might be also a defective vacuum advance (vacuum capsule on dizzy not working)
