Air filter box colour!

All.
Eventually I will get round to detailing the engine and fittings in SXE back to the original colours!
Ive noticed on a few original S1 V8's and early S2V8's that the air filter box is a goldish colour rather than the more common black of the S2!
What paint colour have you used to replicate this when restoring your airbox!
Cheers

I thought it was silver but age, heat, oil and rust has discoloured them over the years.

Any pics in original brochures?

I've always assumed silver. I used Hammerite aerosol on my TC bits and they looked great.

AL . Does that give the "stressed look " as per the original paint job or is it uniform . Hard to describe . I hope Ive explained myself well .I did mine a way back and have never been happy with the finish - always looked like an after thought paint job .

That press pic also shows the elbows in black!
Ive only seen them silver/grey?
Maybe the original paint used was silver, and they found it reacted with heat and went goldish,so they changed to heat resistant black that didnt react!

OK the verdict is in! Ive taken it off and had a good look, and yes it was originally a hammered silver finish!

i think the picture is dark

It is, you can see that the carb tower is the same colour as the elbows so I think engine/manifold grey for those and silver for the can.

Spotted a mistake in the drawing too - they have the transmission cooler lines plumbed into the oil filter.

Hi, no it's just an optical delusion, they are just pointing down ready for the flexibles to go on.

I have a copy of the original poster and mine is lighter than the one above, filter is definitely silver.

hello there

Here is a picture from a road test in Motor Magazine 1968. The air filter box was silver. i think it had a stove enamel look to it. I bought a can of Hycote High temp Silver paint to put on mine.

Hammered silver finish on mine. It needs redoing, so I was in at the powder coaters the other day to match the finish.
