Automatic gearbox dipstick

I have a Borg Warner 35 gearbox with my 3.5 V8. The dipstick and dipstick tube are both 500 mm or 19 1/2 inches long meaning that there will always be oil in the tube. Can someone tell me if the dipstick is too short and what the correct length should be. Thanks.

Andrew,
dip sticks are the same size, came with the car, do the standard method of checking for oil level , as per the sticky on the gearbox section , and you will forever be happy......;)

I don't ever remember being asked by anyone if there dipstick is to short one end ......;)
Thanks> I am not sure that the dipstick is correct as it came in a box of bits. My reconditioned gearbox is leaking and I have been told that I may have overfilled it. Hence the question.

Attached are photos of the gearbox dipstick and tube for clarity.
Do these both look correct for a BW35 gearbox?
Thanks Andy

The breather tube on the dipstick tube doesn't look correct, but that may have been modified. The height of the tube looks about right. If the tube is the correct one then the distance between the underside of the cap on the dipstick, down to the highest notch on the measuring plate on the bottom, should be 25.437" according to the Workshop Manual.

Thanks Harvey
I need to find a longer dip stick to check the oil level.
I did put the 14 pints of AQM mineral oil specified in my Haynes manual.
Regards Andy

Was it a brand new converter? If not and it's been used, then as they can't be fully drained 14 pints will be far too much when added to what's left in there.
