Ballast resistor value

Hi All,

I've been running a Accuspark ignition module in my car for about 6 months. Unfortunately yesterday evening on the way home it started breaking down at higher speeds on the Parkway. Missing at higher loads and higher revs such as overtaking.

I'm considering reverting to points again. However the ballast resistor died many years ago and I have run a wire from the dissy to the coil via the tachometer. The full 12volt ignition system is fine for an electronic system but I'm unsure as to whether I should go back to the ballasted system with points if I revert. Anybody measured the resistance of their ballasts and care to share?

Failing that I'm considering Lumenition's Magtronic module as it has an aluminium case that should help dissipate heat at higher revs/loads. Has anybody else used it?

Many thanks,

Steven

So the BR is 1.5 ohm? that's good to know. I've read good things about them. I've tried Pertronix and Accuspark with poor success. Good to know that I can expect better from the Lumenition setup.

I've not tried the Accuspark, but I've never had any trouble with Petronix other than it seems a crap shoot whether the tach will read low or not.

I've had pertronix Ignitor and flamethrower coils fail on me in the past. As has a friend with a '68 Mini Cooper S. Won't use them again.
