hi folks, Can any one tell me what battery make and model number they are buying these days. Thanks.

I am using a Century 67EF which has a 3 year warranty. Same terminal configuration and sized to fit the box perfectly. I live in Australia so not sure if they are available in other parts of the world. Where abouts are you?

Ron.

Thanks Sydney Rov p6 We don't have Centry 67 EF In England .The german Varta 072 (E24) nearly fits but a bottom lug stops the bat. fiting In the case.

Try Lincon Batteries of Leigh On Sea Essex. They manufacture and sell the old fashioned rubber types with the correct terminal configuration. Not the cheapest (around £100) but they are period and fit neatly in the battery box.

Thank you rp6 1973 ,I've found Varta 072 (E24) 3 year guarantee 70 AH 630 CCA @ £73.00 just a small trim along the bottom lug to fit in the battery box. I may take a chance and buy it.The battery just failed ,was a Halfords HBO27 a perfect fit ,it failed one month after the 3 year guarantee was up but now at £95.00 I find all Hafords batteries to dear.

Last time I looked the Halfrauds batteries were nudging the £200 mark with a 4 year guarantee. Only a year more than the £60 item from our local factor that we bought for our P4. And I saw more than one internet posting on various forums speaking of sudden complete failure of the batteries well inside the warranty period.
I don't really see the point of the extra expense of a period-looking battery when it's shut away in a box in the boot. But that's just me.

I can't understand some of Halfords pricing policies unless they're working on the fact that people assume they'll be cheaper than the main dealers?

I priced up a battery for my V70 last year and they started £120 which is far too much for a shop brand. I bought a geniune one from the Volvo main dealer for £75.

For the P6, I don't think ampage is too much of a concern, your main priority is getting it to fit in the battery box. You could always take the battery box down to your local car shop and see what fits.

Whoa! That's really steep!

As I was told, car batteries are 'assembled' by most companies who have their names on them. The plastic box, acid, and plates are bought from separate suppliers, hence two companies such as Halfords and Varta seeming to make exactly the same size and shape battery. The cost of these components are what prices the final product. I have a Halfords battery and it is fine. As these will almost definitely be made by somebody else and just brand labelled (I don't expect Halfords have a Battery manufacturing plant) then the make is pretty irrelavent as the components for the battery all come from the same original suppliers regardless!

i got one to fit PAE for £46 i think... I'll check the number in the morning - there are a few different numbers that fit and higher cranking power does not equal higher price necessarily either.
