Better sound for old mono radio?

Dear community.

I bought a classic radio for my p6. The previous owner had a disco-style clarion installed, thank god he didn't install a lot of speakers in the doors.
There are 2 new speaker in the orginal place, one front middle, and one rear middle.

Because i renew the whole interior, it is no problem to reinstall the new "old" radio.
What could/should i do for the sound.

The radio i have is a GRUNDIG AUTOSUPER WELTKLANG4000
Weltklang 4000 Car Radio Grundig Radio-Vertrieb, RVF, Radiow the description is in english

Should i buy new speakers. Is there a possibility to "reinforce" the signal or to make stereo out of mono?
When the weather is dry, i always drive with open sunroof, and the rover isn't that quite then.

thanks!
Simon

Find a modern speaker with much higher sensitivity is the easiest option. the dBA/W is usually listed somewhere. Next step is add a small external amp. You can pick those up on Ebay for a few quid.

If the speakers are new and no 200W bricks, why not trying them first ?
Mono stays mono, but my car has its original Philips with two speakers and fader, so it´s not too bad up to mid sound level. Problem is the awful radio program, so I start thinking about a 2nd hand modern unit (with USB, Bluetooth) hidden in the car. Nice alternative, the Becker Grand Prix Retro, 2nd hand ones for a bargain, around 1.500 EUR....
Finally, "Radio Paradise"

There are ways to hide extra speakers in a P6, a search of past threads should reveal a lot of examples.
My own P6 sounds very very good and every bit as good as a modern installation ( though mine has a modern FM tuner) and has had no door speakers ruining the interior or extra holes cut.

Your " new" old radio looks excellent and the technology used in it's design is at the top end for the era so no improvements in radio reception are needed however you could make an auxiliary input for an mp3 player.

Here's another idea. I bought a Bose mini sound link. It is a tremendous piece of kit and costs around £160. It is not very large and you just sit it on the front dashboard shelf and connect your mobile phone to it via Bluetooth. It looks very smart and no installation required. You can then play all the music you like, the sound quality is excellent and when you leave the car you can either just take it off the dash and drop it into your glovebox or take it with you. That way I can still leave my original radio in place for the look, but use this when I want my own music and a decent sound!
Here is a link to one:

Thank you guys.

This are my actual speakers. I am not very familiar with this HiFi things, i don't know if they are good or the right ones.
I also added a picture of the actual radio. How can someone do this? If it was a decent black, okay... but white...

You are both right with the awful radio program. But i found a great tool to solve this.
A german company, called "youngtimerradio" Klassische Autoradios für Oldtimer und Youngtimer bei Youngtimerradio.de - Oldtimer Youngtimer Autoradio Radio Kiel offer some adapters which can be installed on the DIN-socket. This adapters are produced for various radios depending if you have mono or stereo.
This adapters allow to insert the signal of a mp3-player to old radios.
Unfortunatly the website is just in german language.
As the DIN is a german standardization type, i don't know if this works for non german products.

I tried the fm transmitter on the old becker radio of my mercedes. But it is not working well. The mercedes has the antenna on the back, and the transmitter is to weak to give a good signal.

Thank you for the links, i will read through it.

@Riddler
Good idea. But i want to the radio working too. Also i dont have a modern mobile phone, so can't use this.

What is a fader or external amp. The thing is, i font know anything about car HiFi. I never needed to change it in my cars. The actual radio is not only awful looking, it is not working well. The speaker makes a cracky noise, and the quality is quite bad. If i turn it louder, you can just hear a louder acoustic noise, but not more music.
The speaker in the rear is not better at all

Yes, a complete black one would be ok, but this white monster...
I don´t think, the speakers will work properly with the Grundig, but I would try it with only the front speaker first as your Grundig has only one loudspeaker output. Fader I mean "Überblendregler". You can get them to split one mono signal onto two speakers or, better known, stereo signals to 4 speaker instead of 2.
You are already on the right site, and there shop has all the stuff you need. I think, this Grundig can only drive one speaker with the correct figures. Give the guys there the information of your radio and the space for the speaker you have, they will give you the right speaker. Personally I would use an amp(lifier), this radio is not very powerful. There are older mono-amps available, but you can also use a better available stereo amplifier and simply split your loudspeaker cable from your radio into 2 x plus and 2 x minus to use an amp (so you finally have 2 lines with plus/minus each) and this amp can drive better and smaller speakers.

Dear guys,

i got an answer.
The radio is mono radio with 2 speaker outs. They recomended to use a fader to vary the loudness between front an back.
Also i should go through a amplifier after the fader and connecting the speakers to the amplifier.

They couldn't give me a advise for the speaker, so i try the actual ones again, and if i need i change them.

suggested faders:
Mono Überblendregler im Gehäuse inkl. Anschlußkabel
Mono Überblendregler
Gehäuse für Überblendregler

suggested amp:
Ampire 4-Kanal Endstufe 4x60 Watt
The entries of the amplifier could be directly connected to the high out of the radio or fader

MP3 Adapter:
Mono Audioadapter für CD/MP3 Player 6polig

thank you all for your help!
