Bolts to attach a a Rover V8 to an engine stand

My mate has the V8 out of his P5B saloon stashed in my garage. I'm trying to convince him to buy an engine stand so we can inspect and refurbish the engine. I seem to vaguely recall that when I had my engine on such a stand I used different bolts, not the original bellhousing bolts, to attach it to the stand. If that was indeed the case, my question is what type of bolts will I need to procure? Thread pitch, and length, anybody? Thanks in advance.

I looked up the size in the workshop parts book and then measured the distance required to go through the engine stand, and added it to the depth the original bolts went into the block. Then ordered some from ebay

I probably have them somewhere - and a vague recollection they were 3/8 UNC

Thanks for the speedy reply @quattro. Good, I'm pleased I hadn't misremembered. Not having yet actually acquired the stand, I can't measure the tubes the bolts through. I want to have everything to hand when my mate shows up with the stand and a borrowed engine hoist. I'll go check my parts book but I reckon 3/8 UNC is a good shout. D'ya reckon three inch bolts plus maybe some extra washers would do it?

No way you can tell until you get the stand, unless you can get that measurement, but I would guess that three inches would be far too short.

The book says bolts are 3/8 UNC. My engine stand looks the same as Quattro's and the brackets the bolts go through are 70mm deep.

I just measured them. 3/8"UNC High tensile 3 1/2" in length, and the brackets are 2 1/2" deep so 1" can go into the block, less the thickness of the washer that is.
