bottom end.

i have a problem with my car. started from cold oil pressure is about 40 running 30 idle, no engine noise. when at running temp pressure just 25 idle 15 or 10 . no red warning light ever come on. but the last few days when it reaches temp i get what sounds like a tappet noise but is more prominant when i put stethoscope on the front of the sump. if i let it cool down for 10 mins and start it again, no noise till it reaches temp again. no noises when started from cold. im thinking getting upgrade oil pump to try first. whats your ideas. tried to post video but wont let me.

If you think the noise is coming from inside the sump, and as IIRC your car is the 3500S, then as you don't need to remove the exhaust to drop the sump, I'd suggest that for the price of a sump gasket you drop the sump and have a look inside. You might see a witness mark or see something else that might be causing it. You could also wait until you get the noise, then pull the plug leads off one by one to see if the reduction of load on the piston reduces the noise.

after a few people looking at my car we have decided what i thought in the first place and believe i have a sticky or dry lifter. only when engine hot.i think its 1 at the rear so maybe oil starvation.??? how easy are these to take out and inspect and will they come out from the top. thanks. im also thinking of upgrading the oil pump. what are your thoughts on that.

Lifters will come out from the top once the inlet manifold and rocker covers have been removed providing that the lifter hasn't been damaged by the camlobe.

A hi-volume pump kit is a good idea.

just to let you know that i sorted the above problem. i put in some wynns hydraulic lifter treatment and run the car for about 260 miles and the noise disappeared i then drained the oil and replaced with oil with recommended zddp and a tin of wynns oil treatment. car runs superb with no noise or tappets on startup and better oil pressure. i think it was a sticking valve.
