This very long established event has just been announced as being on Sunday 13th June 2010 at Norman Park, Bromley.

This event is now being run by Classic Car Weekly. Costs look to have risen for Club stands. They are asking for a minimum of ten cars @ £5.00 each admin fee.

To be honest Nick I always thought the clubs got in for free at Bromley. Whenever I have put my car on the club stand i've never been charged. Did the Club pay on my behalf?
Not sure i like the idea of paying an entrance fee for a show that would not actually exist if I didn't turn up. It's like charging the muscians to come and play in the orchestra. It will be interesting how many Clubs vote with their feet..........then what sort of a show would they have? :|

I find it a bit eyebrowing-raising as well. It's always been free for Clubs.

Not a good development methinks.

I don't know the ins and outs of this particular show, however we generally have to pay for cars on clubs stands around here (sometimes reduced), we generally pay from our regional funds, so the members don't have to.

However at these shows, club stands are a rarity rather than the norm.

Is it me Richard or is it not slightly 'odd' that Clubs should be asked to pay at all?

Shows such as the Bromley Pageant may well be of interest to enthusiasts but are aimed squarely at the retail market. The huge rise in the number of stalls selling garden furniture and other imported (Chinese in origin) detritus proves to me that what was once a classic car show of interest to the general public has now become a Sunday market with a few classic cars (and getting fewer each year) as well.

If such an enterprise is no longer viable then the organiser either need to cut their profit margins or cancel the show, they should not expect the classic car community to subsidise it.

I think my musician and orchestra analagy hits the nail on the head, the musicians get paid to perform the audience pay to listen.

Am I alone in thinking this way or do others agree.

That describes the Enfield Pageant perfectly, which due to the Low Emission Zone had almost no commercials, a Sunday market, and very few cars to browse through compared to previous years.

Still should be great next year, they're letting the "Max Power" chav brigade in to make up the numbers.........

They won't be taking my tenner for the entrance fee.

Someone mentioned above about the Classic Car Weekly connection, I'm only speculating but maybe this "admin fee" is down to their having been taken over by a larger publishing firm and also a small change at the editorial helm too?? I've given up on the Enfield pageant, also the Ally Pally show is no longer really viable (cancelled this year). I live near london (N.E) and it seems to be getting more classic unfriendly by the day, we all know the arguments of renovation vs buying new, but unfortunately I think this reasoning is a smokescreen for more underhanded motivations of those in charge.

All display stand cars are being charged £5 each, this is the first time the Bromlet show has charged. This includes cars on the three car stands.

Well I for one hope all Clubs refuse to pay and don't attend. There are plenty of other shows on at this time of the year and there is no longer anything 'special' about Bromley. :(

Years ago I thought Bromley Pageant had got too big for one day and I was kn*ckered by the time I'd got round half of it . Plus there were too many whingeing kids and their parents .
Or am I just a grumpy old man ?
