(Budget) Historic Rally Car Project

I know you've done lots of upgrades to your car, but will these fit on a standard 3500 p6?

And what size tires you putting on?

Hi Lee,

The tyres are Hankook 4s 205/65-15, these suit the events we do as they are a 4 season M&S tyre, during an event there isn't the time to constantly change the tyres to match the surfaces, and we're typically on mud, gravel, wet and dry tarmac, these tyres are great on all these surfaces.

As always check out https://p6v8.wordpress.com/ for the details of what has been done to our car, as you say it is a lot!!! Getting these wheels in required some cutting and welding around the bottom of the D post, well most of it has been removed. Our rear suspension has NO rubber in it al all so our wheels can be very close to the body work without fear of contact under load.

I see you've posted elsewhere about getting involved in historic rallying, I'll reply in more detail on that thread but as point out it is expensive. We titled this thread (Budget) when we started but we really ment budget in motorsport terms, there is no hiding from the bills once you start.

Hi,

I didn't compete in the TDC Retro Rally for various reasons but Gavin is still at it as I type, I did nip down yesterday to see how he was getting on (600mile round trip  ) I've attached a few pictures, these are from my phone I have some more on a proper camera but I'm too knackard to sort those at the moment!!!

Gavin will I'm sure write a bit of a post event review but for the moment please have a look at the new look Budget (that's becoming less and less approprate) rally car.

Thanks, Tim

hi, I just posted in the lounge section if anyone had done this (I must remember the search function is my friend!!) I have a couple of questions if I may

1) could regularity runs be done in a standard 3500s
2) what car insurance do u use for the rallies you attend
3) have you come across any pitfalls or issues with the scruiteneers
4) What equipment is compulsory

many thanks

Hi,

I’ve attached a couple of action pictures but follow the link below for many more, both of our P6 and all the other competitors on the event, it will give a feel for the wide cross-section of cars that compete.

I’ve had a short e-mail from Gavin about how the car performed and it’s all very positive but I’ll let him go into more detail there.

Hi all,
IMG_0266-vi.jpg

That was all 18 ago, boy time does pass.....

I'm resurrecting this thread; the car is still fine and healthy. It is semi retired from motorsport for now. The retro classic rallies have stopped and the powers that be have decided that V8 are not allowed to do what we call 'Lane Rallies'. I could rant here about how this make no sense to ban a car like ours, but it is what it is.
Hopefully the car will still be used for some forward only autotests and others stuff. For the near future the plan is to get the car ready for a trip to France in the summer. Currently the gearbox is not really working as it should, after I overhauled it!!!! So that will come out again and while it is out the engine will be swapped for a modern Rover V8 engine. To aid this does anyone have a P6 V8 spare sump and oil pickup, see P6 V8 sump and oil pickup
