How do you by pass the reserve tap ? Twice I have had the car ,( 2000 Tc ), on a rolling road and twice ran out of fuel . Switch to the reserve , although there is half a tank of fuel and all is ok . I would never run the car until I needed the reserve .

Well, you could just leave it in the reserve position. But my guess is the higher fuel pickup pipe in the tank is blocked. best option would be to drain the tank, disconnect the fuel lines under the tank and blow through them with an airline or wire. If you find a lot of dirt in the fuel being drained you might want to clean it and fit a fuel filter.

Thank you sdibbers, that makes perfect sense that I have a blockage somewhere as when I demanded maximum fuel it could not deliver. I have just filled up so I won’t be doing anything just yet. Thanks for your input.

Always happens with a full tank! Haha.

My guess would be a dirty system. Fortunately the tank isn't terrible to remove, cleaning and resealing the tank might be prudent when you can. That way you'll get a working reserve tap and a reliable fuel system.

Best option is to drain and clean the tank. I took the easy way and blew out the fuel lines to clear the blockage. Fine but came to a halt later with fuel filters blocked, s muck cleared out went into the tank and came back to cause more trouble.
That said, once the filters were changed/cleared, I have had no more trouble.
