Cam Shaft and bearings

Hi All,

I'm rebuilding a spare 2000TC cylinder head. I noticed some valve seat wear and camshaft bearing and journal wear on the one fitted to Beryl. The valve guides and seats on the other head are in good condition, however I've noticed that bearing and journals on the camshaft of this head are scored (in this case it looks like the triangular plate on the end of the camshaft carrier wasn't gasketed).

Were oversize bearings ever available for the camshaft does anybody know? I notice that JR Wadhams sell NOS camshafts for GBP300 and std bearing shells for GBP75. The cost of a new camshaft is a bit high for my pockets, especially as the lobes show no wear.

Any thoughts on alternatives?

Best,

Steven

A good used camshaft with good used or new STD bearings perhaps?
I haven't heard of anyone complaining for a worn 4 cyl camshaft. It must be exactly the opposite of the V8 ones.

Hi Demetris,

The lobes are fine, no visible wear whatsoever. But the bearing journals are worn on both camshafts. I can only imagine with them being at the top of the engine the are the last to get oil after startup.
