camshaft

hi , can a camshaft be removed and lobes built up to a certain profile and then reinstalled without servicing the bearings? thanks

don't think it's worth building up 'lobes' though technically possible of course. probably better and possibly cheaper to simply buy a new cam. ? if we are running a 3.5 V8 I understand the 3.9 later cam will not only fit but give better breathing and as much as 5 extra bhp .though stand to be corrected on that bit. get second opinion though .

Hi, Usually when camshafts are re-profiled they don't add material to the lobe they regrind the base circle down leaving the top of the lobe alone. The proviso is that the lobe is not too worn down that base circle is still clear of the shaft itself. RV8 camshafts can get so bad on some lobes that there's virtually no lift at all.
