Can he fix it? Yes he can!

Made by an eighty plus year old gentleman who lives nearby. Apparently he can make pretty much anything , as he had also made panels for a Lancia Delta (heresy) that Colin was working on. I'd love to be able to do this kind of stuff. It must be very satisfying.

Coming together at last. White used to make it easy to see where black stuff is needed (or missed).

Colin seems to think this might be an issue. Oh dear.

De Dion tube (rusty due to missing gaiter), De Dion elbows (rusted through - liable to fail - dangerous), springs (just a bit droopy) and bushes (no polite way to describe them): will all be replaced. Sigh.

Looks like you caught those dedion elbows just in the nick of time. You cannot drive on those, they are scrap.

Edit: yes just read your post. I wonder when was the car last used? The fact they held together - someone might have had a lucky escape.

Lucky escape indeed. Car last driven on public roads about12 years ago - been in my garage since then, waiting for me to sort it, and it appears, slowly deteriorating. Car is in good hands now though, and Colin says I'll be able to drive it home when it's done, which will be quite something.

An excellent way to polish one's skills due to high volume demanded. A friend had an Integrale and he said that if he stood really quietly in the garage after driving in the wet, he could hear the car fizzing as it dissolved.....

Truly stunning work there. I can't begin to imagine the cost of this level of workmanship, but it'll produce one of the best out there. I look forward to more progess

At some point I'll catalogue all the work Colin has done here - it was a bit like peeling a particularly unpleasant onion - every new layer revealed more horrors. It's a lot, and I'm afraid we blew the budget by a factor of about 110%, despite him discounting some of the work, and being very generous with some of the parts from his own stock. I am currently scrabbling around down the back of the sofa and other similar places to find the funds to settle the final bill. Sigh!

On the plus side we have a car with a very solid base unit, good rear suspension, and a solid bulkhead. However, there are no carpets, we have mismatched and dubious condition seats, we need proper new tyres, we need a new radiator (existing has temporary repair - won't last), our doors have rusty bottoms, our front valance is holed and needs replacing, the near-side front wing needs replacing (I've got a NOS one though), we'd like to upgrade to electronic ignition, we'd like to upgrade to power steering (so female of species can drive it), we fancy an uprated anti-roll bar so we can hurtle round corners, we need to replace all shock absorbers, we should replace the front springs, and eventually of course, maybe consider a complete respray.

So there's still a lot to do.

In the meanwhile though I am going to drive it (as soon I can get it paid for and shipped back) because the other important thing we have now is an MOT. :)

Well done Colin!

Well done! I did say at the start that Colin can fix any hole, except the one in your bank account......... I know that I started with a 6-7k figure in mind, but that lasted about 5 weeks . Always disregard the first figure you think off.
But you have an MOT, and it's safe and drivable so enjoy:)
