Carb leak

Anyone throw any light on this?

Front carb on 22tc started leaking so I have cleaned it out replaced float valve and seat............could not see anything wrong ........still leaking although not as bad ...........and intermittantly........Im stumped. Not done anything with float height as all was working as it should a couple of weeks ago so presuming float height is the same as it was.

I assume it is leaking from the float bowl. Did you check the float itself it may have a tiny hole ?
I'd replace the large seal and check the fuel pump as well. Check the filter, is it split ?, crap from the tank could be finding its way into the carbs and jamming the new needle and seat. The front carb receives petrol from the pump and there is a pipe which transfers it to the rear carb which might explain why the problem is with the front one.
If you prime the carbs with the fuel pump lever you should feel it go slack when the needle valves close see if you can force them to flood. Set the fuel reserve tap to the central position and remove the fuel pump glass to access the filter.

Something I've found is that the hole in the float through which the spindle passes becomes elongated, allowing the float to move sideways and jam on the side of the bowl. A little percussive maintenance (a sharp tap with a hammer) can often provide a temporary cure.

Fuel pump fine (later version not glass one) filter fine float new as valve and seat. Instead of a constant weep (from the old valve and seat ) now no leak at all until the float bowl is full then a massive leak. Replaced old seat and valve after wire wooling the brass after noticing a very slight burr, carb now not leaking.

Compared new valve and seat to old and noticed that this has a considerably larger jet hole.........??

I have now realized this is because some incompetant t~~t has sold me an incorrect new seat and valve.

What makes this worse is I actually took the trouble to identify the carb type and specified the correct part number. Although the correct code for the valve and seat appears on the invoice the jet hole is obviously larger

As often repeated on this forum, when dealing with these cars or any other, it is always best to deal with suplliers/mechanics that actually know what they are doing!

Needless to say I wont be useing this supplier again.
