carburettor - glove compartment carb plunger

I have recently aquired a 1970 2000 sc which is, apart from gearbox noise in the lower gears, running beautifully. starts first time with a little choke, doesnt smoke and uses no oil. However when under the bonnet I noticed that the carb plunger, thats the plastic topped brass rod that screws into the top of the carb is missing, hole covered with tape, today I found the missing item in the drivers side glove box, undamaged, any ideas? regards bemersol.

I would just check the threads on both the damper and the carb body, make sure they are in tact.

Re-fit it and see what happens, obviously make sure you have the right amount of oil in there for the damper.

Perhaps its some sort of "performance" modification !!
